2022 ($13.1MM) and 2023 ($16.6MM).
They (and he) need to correct his problem at least to the level he deserves to be a #5 starter. Doubt they can deal him even for a PTNL with someone taking his contract given his 2021.

He's fairly worthless to anyone at this point.
Let's hope, for ALL our sake, Blake figures out how to pitch in the major leagues at some point this season.
We've been fortunate that Paddock seems to have re-discovered his rookie form. And that Weathers is looking like our top young pitcher(....if only Tingler would stretch him out a bit!). And that Diaz has contributed in long stretches.
If Lamet can continue on his current trajectory, he'll be a plus.
Obviously, we could use the Blake Snell that won the Cy Young but I'd settle for a Joey Lucchesi- level performance at this point- turn up every 5 days, throw 5 or 6 innings, and keep your team within striking distance.

FTJ goes 0-5 with 3 Ks and we score 9, baseball is a funny game sometimes. Don't look now but perennial fan non favorite Pham has quietly been on a very hot streak and now has an OBA of .364 and is doing a good job as leadoff hitter. Could he stay there when Grisham returns ? His OBA is most valuable in that spot setting the table for the big guys. Or could Tingler get creative and bat him 9th and pitcher 8th ? That would take a big pair to pull that off. Grisham 2nd or 3rd ? It could really lengthen the lineup with Pham leadoff, you could see Myers batting 6th or 7th and same for Hosmer

Given Pham's OBP plus he is stealing bases ... would leave him in lead-off. Since getting the better hitters early in the line-up (for those "extra" ABs) I would keep Grisham near the top. How about:
Pham ... best OBP recently and that is important for lead-off
Grisham (L) ... can work the counts and takes walks
Tatis ... get him up in the 1st with men on base (not leading off the 2nd with no one on base)
Hosmer (L) ... hits with runners in scoring postion
Machado ... off to a slow start so get him out of the 1st inning
Cronenworth (L) ... someone has to go to #6
Myers ... currently cold but will get hot
Nola/Caratini (#) ...

This was part of the rundown of CBS Sports power rannkings.
It feels like they (SD) really need leadoff man Trent Grisham in the lineup. He's on the injured list right now, but the Padres are 23-13 when he plays and 13-12 when he doesn't.
Im sure part of it is the bat; however, more importantly, I think its the OF defense. I personally think that Profars lack of OF experience has cost SD 2-4 runs over the last weekend.

Staying up to 2 am and watching Profar misplay balls into runs and the offense struggle against a soft tosser is not my idea of enjoyment.
It’s the 6th inning and we have one bloop single and now are losing 3-0 thanks to Tinglers’ need to start Profar in CF for some reason.
Make that 5-0 now!

Padres just signed LHRP Joe Beimel (age 44) to a minor league contract assigned to San Antonio.
He has not pitched in the ML since 2015 and in organized ball since 2017 (Independent League) but apparently the rest helped has he is reportedly throwing in the mid-90s.

Of note only since have to speculate a layer of concern that the Padres may not have enough LHRP in the queue beyond Hill. Maybe worried about Pomeranz …. Strahm may not be effectively returning in 2021 (if at all) … Castillo is out … and Ramirez is not more than filler. Long long shot … but ML experience and at one point was effective … and don’t forget “rested”.

Padres swinging at ball after ball against DeGrom- that ain't gonna get it done.
It's only 3 innings but I'd say DeGrom has thrown, maybe, 40% of his pitches for strikes. With our guys flailing away, he has ZERO reason to throw anything remotely close to the strike zone.

Tatis looks like a little leaguer up there. He's had no chance at any of the 4 pitches( none in the strike zone) thrown.
Ditto his first AB.
Our guys are going to have to be patient if they expect to even get a hit tonight.

What to say about Snell????
As much as I desperately him to succeed, I'm just not sure he's capable.
Even though he was fairly efficient through 4, he seemed to overthrow quite a few fastballs. Then the moment he was challenged, he really fell apart( thank you Tommy Pham for an extremely lackadaisical play in LF)
Short of deGrom falling apart, bad night for the boys in brown. Need to find our way back to the W column soon before we're looking up at both our neighbours to the north.
