Yeah, Padres are near the bottom on the NL in runs scored and SLG ... not only HR but also doubles, triples. Pitching (which is near the best in not allowing runs) is all that is saving them ... and that is even with the struggles of Paddack, Snell and Lamet out of the rotation. I keep telling myself ... only 20% of the season in ...

Quote from fenn68 on May 9, 2021, 5:29 amJust an observation (maybe wrong) but this year the entire NL is still relatively bunched together in losses ... usually some teams really run out hot and some really run out cold by now. All the teams are still one good winning / losing streak from changing the standings a lot. Consider losses:
Division Leaders: NYM (13); STL (14); SF (13) but then
16 losses: LAD; MILW; PHIL; SD; Cubs; CINN; WASH
17 losses: ATL: MIA
18 losses: AZ
19 losses: PITT
21 losses: COLO
That is quite a group still within “easy” striking distance of the Division leaders and quite a mess in sorting out the WILD CARD. AL is similar (except for DET).

Still too early to draw any conclusions .... but do like the new "dead ball" shaving off those "cheap" HR.Remember last year we skipped all the early season games and went right into summer at Petco. Hopefully our bats heat up soon as the weather warms up.

Quote from MrPadre19 on May 9, 2021, 9:01 amWe also only played teams in the West so didn’t see a lot of different starters and Pens etc.
On one hand I’m happy we are within striking distance of the Division despite very little offense from anyone.....on the other we just saw the Dodgers play a 3 week stretch as bad as they ever will and we didn’t take advantage.
We could have at game lead in the entire Division right now if we had just had average offense.
We really need to take advantage of the 6 games against the Rockies coming up cause the rest of the month are good opponents.

Not sure Tingler knows since he has hedged even after the game yesterday:
1. MIGHT be Paddack IF he comes off the IL and is deemed ready to pitch
2. MIGHT be Diaz who did well in his effort last Tuesday(?)
3. MIGHT be Lamet who only threw 30 pitches in his last start IF he is feeling fine ... which the Padres are not disclosing.
4. MIGHT be Weathers who did well following Lamet (limited pitches) IF he is feeling fine ... which the Padres are not disclosing.
Probably will make the call this morning after talking to all the options and try to assess who in the most ready.

Quote from fenn68 on May 9, 2021, 12:38 pmWell, just announced SP is Paddack (Crismatt optioned). Report is that he has not pitched in 10 days with NO side sessions or throwing.
Maybe the plan on him as a “starter” ... 1-2 innings? Follow maybe with Lamet or Weathers?
