His 58ft curve used to get a lot of hitters flailing at it....I think he needs to really bear down and trust his stuff and throw more strikes.

It's not rocket surgery.

If you want to go further in games you have to keep the pitch count down and walking 6 guys in 5 innings is not the way to accomplish that.

So maybe you give up some hits/runs throwing more strikes...it's gonna happen.But walking guys and turning solo home runs into 2-3 run home runs is worse.

Neither of us are hitting right now...while they have gone off the deep end we've barely stayed above water ourselves....while the Giants have been the team to take advantage.

Whichever team breaks out offensively first may go out to a big lead in this division.There's no way the dodgers are going to keep losing like this.

We may look back and lament not running away with this while we had the chance.All I can say is we better dominate the Rockies this month at bare minimum.

I guess we are in that “small sample size” zone ... but that magnitude of difference is a head scratcher.

I'm guessing part of it is the more "dead" ball is simply not going to go out in SD.

Just a random aside:  Very early in season Pham hit multiple balls to warning track in SD, but I got the distinct feeling "he got 100% of that... he can't hit it any further than that", and the thought/doubt that right now (age/injuries) he is simply incapable of hitting a HR in PETCO began to creep in...

I have been seeing that across the league ... so in theory that effect should be felt by everyone / everywhere. PETCO is always a challenge but in 2020 4th AWAY and 7th at HOME ... that home drop has to be more than the ball with the same basic core. Need to remember this was April in SD which is notorious of heavy air ... see what happens in the summer heat. Still too early to draw any conclusions .... but do like the new "dead ball" shaving off those "cheap" HR.

I know may of us were thinking him a non-tender candidate but (and really glad this did not come to pass) but did hear a commentary that some in the Padres front office were considering signing him to a multi-year deal last winter.

Based on his reputation prior to SD .... he was a smart hitter and could go the opposite way when the situation called for it ... to get key RBI. Not seeing that in his 2021 game and seeing more the bigger swing while trying to pull (unsuccessfully). Maybe his eye issues are creating an issue with picking up spin at the point of release?

Then again, only 20% into the season ... maybe he needs more time to round into playing shape ... I hope.

No one is hitting....Myers,Machado,Tatis....if not for the occasional hit by Hosmer,Cronenworth and Grisham this would be even uglier.
