2021 Season
Quote from MrPadre19 on April 21, 2021, 4:53 pmSo let’s watch strike three right down the middle with the bases loaded and then swing at ball 4 two feet over our heads with the tying runs in scoring position in the 9th!

Quote from MrPadre19 on April 21, 2021, 4:59 pmNow we have 4 against the Dodgers in LA.
Anyone expect us to win more than one?
Even one?

Obviously he didn’t say he “needed” surgery or he would have gone ahead and had it.I seriously doubt Lamet and the Padres went against Andrews’ recommendation.
I just don’t get how he’s been fine.......even throwing 70 pitches a few days ago and goes 2 innings today and needs surgery.
Probably a lot more grey area in what Dr. Andrews’ told Lamet and the Padres. More likely presented the extent of damage and options / potential outcomes where corrective surgery was an option (but with loss of 2021 and some question of success), the platelet treatment as an alternative (given the damage) and the potential for return in 2021 but with its own questions about success. Apparently just rest was not an option.
Presented the alternatives, Lamet (and his agent) made the decision / took the risk. Not sure how the Padres’ organization deals with these situations but generally is considered that trying to “force” someone to opt for any specific medical procedure is inappropriate. Just lay out the issues / alternatives ... maybe recommend ... but ultimately it is the player’s body, career, and choice.

Late September.
Side: personally have little belief that the hitting coach makes all that much difference ... as the Padres have seen with the yearly parade of hitting coaches for the past decade (or more). Pham - Hosmer - Machado - Myers are all veterans who have been all-stars ... not going to be impressed by any hitting coach.
Players get hot and cold .... Padres are ice cold with players with histories of success.
Tatis - Pham - Caratini / Campusano are 3/8th of the offense and are floundering so far ... makes it easier to pitch around the rest.

Quote from 3fingersplit on April 21, 2021, 6:42 pmQuote from MrPadre19 on April 21, 2021, 4:22 pmHow does a professional major league hitter watch a fastball right down the middle on a full count and the bases loaded when you’re losing by 2 runs?
Wouldn’t ANY other hitter be keying in a fastball in that situation?
So you get one....”right down the middle”....and you don’t even swing?
I don’t think I’ve ever been this frustrated with a game....even if we do score here.
But Pham is so intense and so....blah,blah,blah...The guy sucks.......if he is in the line up I refuse to watch or listen anymore....can't sit him....makes to much money everybody says and can't trade him because he is a FA after this season and his performance to date along with his dollars owed gives him an exchange rate of maybe two dozen USED baseballs....I hated the trade when we got him and I hate it today....the only saving grace is Croney.
