Quote from fenn68 on April 21, 2021, 2:20 pmOK know different ... “right forearm tightness” .... ought to send him directly back to IL and the harbinger of “TJ”
Looks the SP will become Darvish - Snell - Musgrove - Paddack - Weathers as the core 5 .... the new debate will be who steps in as #6 spot starter / long relief.

Quote from fenn68 on April 21, 2021, 2:33 pmClevinger opted for TJ ASAP and should be ready for the 2022 season ... Lamet opts for platelet rich treatment and that fails likely leading to TJ and missing 2021 and 2022.
Not sure I have seen any analysis comparing the “success” rates of the two approaches. Gut reaction is TJ is the better option ... but not my arm I guess.

I think the only guy that has really saved off TJ was Tanaka (NYY just went back to Japan), and not sure if he did PRP. I know Garret Richards tried the PRP and then had to have TJ anyway.
So.....like you said, not my arm. However, I think I would just go straight to surgery myself.

Quote from 84padres on April 21, 2021, 2:53 pmI wonder what it would be like to have even average luck. Forearm tightness =TJ surgery.
Gore had better be ready because we will need him this year

Quote from WindsorUK on April 21, 2021, 2:57 pmSo, I guess Lamet comes back in 2022, his age 30 season?
Although he'll have A LOT of cutting in his arm, he won't have many innings. Pitchers can go well into their 30's. Maybe we sign him to an extremely team friendly deal and he finally stays healthy?

Padres management will most certainly coerce him in this direction?
They let him try it his way- didn't work.

At this point ... not sure of anyone other than Gore in the system ready to take a starters’ role in the ML. Unless there is another SP injury, should be able to get through May with only 5 starters (a lot of off days) and that will give Gore some minor league starts to really get ready for a call-up.
Maybe in May someone else in the system blossoms in a starting role ... but a long shot in my mind.

Quote from MrPadre19 on April 21, 2021, 3:19 pmThis game is breaking my heart.
First Lamet and now the home runs and we’re getting beat again.
Come on Padres score some damn runs!
WTH is wrong with this team?

I would guess he will not be ready at all for the first half of 2022 ... probably not much of the season at all even if he has the surgery ASAP.
Just read an older article about pitchers having second TJ surgeries ... somewhat limited data but does not bode well for the pitchers returning to top form. Some different surgical issues with a re-do and generally the pitchers are older. The article was written relating to Clevinger having his second TJ last October.
Want to be optimistic about successful returns of both ... but not sure I want to rely on the hope. Clevinger will be returning at age 31 next season (and a FA after that year) ... Lamet will be returning at age 30 in 2023 (and a FA after that year).
If anything ... the Clevinger - Lamet situations may accelerate extension talks with Musgrove who will be a FA after next season.
