Johnson AND Altavilla activated.

Crismatt optioned and, out of nowhere, Williams to the IL (right knee inflammation) to make room.

So that probably means the next move is consistent with the Lamet activation next week.

Wonder which injury is/was "worse":   Williams' knee or Altavilla's Calf strain  🙂

Maybe a guy for Pads to put a claim in on...?   Basically a Mateo 80 speed grade type but with 3 options.  >Athlete than baseball player, but more of a true CF/OF.   Hoping not, but guessing Pads have at least one 60-day IL of:  Morejon, Ona, &/or Strahm.

Nick Heath (Royals), 27, made his MLB debut in 2020 and went 2-for-13 with a double and a pair of steals in four tries. He’s not a particularly imposing threat at the plate, evidenced by a .266/.348/.361 batting line in four minor league seasons, but Heath is one of the fastest players in professional ball. Scouting reports at FanGraphs, MLB.com and Baseball America peg him at either 70- or 80-grade speed on the 20-80 scale. He’s swiped 160 bases in 200 tries (80 percent) through just 323 total minor league games.  Heath can play all three outfield spots and has a full slate of three minor league options remaining,

Congrats Padres, you took the Pirates too lightly and now you will struggle to split with one of the worst teams in MLB.

10 Million Dollars aside.....Pham only cares about one thing and it's not the Padres or his teammates...the sooner he is gone the better off this team will be.....you guys can love him and make excuses for him but he doesn't pass the eye test....no pun intended.

Tingler's not.  What lineup should he have done with no Myers?  Grisham/Hos/Jake tough night combined 1-12, 2B, 3K, 0 BB vs LHSP >5 IP + pen.   Musgrove did his job, just kind of a head scratcher why not doing that vs LAD & maybe going 6-8 IP instead of Pirates where it was always going to be 4-5+ max.  Not going to beat any team scoring 1 run regardless of SP.

At full health/strength, the obvious leadoff hitter I think vs RHSP is Jake.  But that pushes one of Tatis, Machado, or Grisham to 4 or likely lower, since Hos good @ 4 vs RHP.  Against LHSP, using this one game sample (joking... kind of) I'd lead off Pham.  But then it's hard not to have 4 RH in a row with Tatis, Machado, Myers > Hos?  Too unbalanced?   I like going with the good eye but less power Jake/Pham up top to increase the chance HR aren't solo shots.

Anyone else like to see Marcano get the start @ 2B with Jake @ SS to get another LH in lineup vs a RHP no one's faced?

Last hoorah before Tatis returns?

Yeah, could be Profar if Myers back, but I'd almost rather see Wil sit another one & be full go vs LAD.  I'm not "taking Pitt lightly"; just thinking long term & matchups.

Well close to your suggestion:

Kevin Acee
Tucupita Marcano gets his first MLB start. Grisham CF Profar LF Cronenworth 2B Machado 3B Hosmer 1B Kim SS Marcano RF Campusano C Paddack P

Good to give Marcano a start but bigger to give Myers another day so hopefully he can go all 3 vs LAD.  Interesting lineup with Profar giving 3 LH to start, then "splitting" the LH hitters if Pirates use a LHRP later.  Go Tucupita!

Nice job Manny,  please do not let up for a change.

Good job offense 6-1 after 2. Paddock is impossible to watch
