I would go all in on Conforto as a FA in the offseason. With Phams $10M coming off the books, that would account for about half of what I think Conforto will get per year.
Yeh, I have little hope on Ona for the future. Conforto is a good call depending on his FA price tag but will have to do something to replace Pham (hopefully not resigned) and deal with the likely add of the DH in the NL. Just don’t realistically see (or bet on) anyone for 2022-23 in the system to fill those roles and clearly zip for 2021.
Adding two legit ML quality hitters will not come cheap in either salary or trade chips. Then consider trade chips have been depleted and payroll has already been pushed to all time high (and top 10 in MLB) ... Preller will have a challenge.
Might end up being moves based on “excess” starting pitching ... I guess all could be in play depending on how everyone preforms in 2021.

As a team, we've been terrible with RISP so far. Something wrong with the approach; pressure should be on the Pitcher. Last night was a weird terrible unwatchable outlier hopefully; think you have to be a little more aggressive with bases loaded, but hard to do when they're walking every other guy.
Don't give up on Pham so quickly. He's been hitting the ball too hard for his BA & OBP to not correct closer to his career avg... some of those will start falling.
But I am concerned about his loss of power; that combo of injuries/age/PETCO may drop his HR well < 20 for season; too low for a LF unless he's elite OBP. Anyone still think we "overpaid" Profar...?

No issue with Profar yet ...
278/378/333 (106 OPS+) so far and has been what the Padres signed him for covering players down and has so far been in LF/RF/1B/2B ... all in 2 weeks.

Well ... timely for debate:
1. Myers out of today’s line up with the knee issue
2. Profar goes to RF
3. “And my favorite”: Pham is moved to 4th in the line-up with Profar 5th
Musgrove needs another great outing.

Just a perspective set on overreacting to 2 weeks of production, for qualified OF so far (from worst wRC+) ... names that have been suggested in the past for the Padres:

Those are some big names (and big contracts) who are a lot better than their first two weeks.

Could another player in FA @ similar cost have (out) produced the 1st sentence... yes. Could another player avail in FA same $ have done the 2nd sentence... can't think of one. Even with Jake Raking & signing Kim, the Profar re-sign looks like it was a "must" so far.

Plus moving Hos UP in lineup to 3rd vs LHP. But sometimes these make Mgr look good...

Johnson AND Altavilla activated.
Crismatt optioned and, out of nowhere, Williams to the IL (right knee inflammation) to make room.
So that probably means the next move is consistent with the Lamet activation next week.

Announcers said Musgrove will be capped at 85 pitches tonight .... 57 through 3 innings. So, likely taken out in the 5th.

What I really don't like about not giving Musgrove the 2 extra days & moving him to vs LAD is that he could have gone longer that game with the extra rest. Weathers is going to be on the same pitch count whichever game he pitched, so Pads are really setting up for potentially 3 short starts in a row by not bumping Musgrove.... could be a taxed pen by game 2 vs LAD.
I just don't see what there was to be gained by having Joe go today, besides temporarily "disrupting" the rotation... by putting the guy who just threw a no-hitter "#1"? Seems like short term & long term risks outweigh the rewards.
