2021 Season

Well 3-3 Grisham walks —- 2nd on error —- 3rd on fly ball —- scores on wild pitch ...not pretty but ties the game.

Crismatt in the bottom of the 2nd ... probably not wanting to push Stammen after his 3.1 last outing but did want him in in a critical situation to end the 1st. Hopefully Crismatt can give some length.

Pham and Campy are leaving every Padre on base tonight.

SIX for Pham and FOUR for Campy.

This is not how I saw tonight going especially after we scored 2 in the 1st and Snell got the first 2 outs.

You have to be kidding?

THIRTEEN walks and THREE hit batters in 8 innings and we only score 4 runs?

I’ve  never seen so many runners left on base in one game.

Got to be the worst pitching performance I’ve ever seen by one team and we’re losing?

A team that’s supposed to be one of the best in baseball?

I guess file this under  the “that’s baseball” category.....

How frustrating tonight has been.....

What an ugly game .15 LOB is unheard of. Snell lost his composure after the passed balls by Campusano. I still think he will be fine but needs at least 1 and a half of AA and AAA. I hope Nola is ready this weekend or Caratini is going to be worn out by May.

Not much to say good about last night's game.

Crismatt has to get some credit for going 5 innings (even if not all that effective) when the Padres needed to preserve some pen. More than doubled his longest outing in some time. (My guess) is that his "reward" will be an option to the alternate site to make room for a fresh bullpen arm.

The use of Crismatt (and Stammen even though short) looks increase the odds of Weathers becoming the Friday starter is enhanced. Still unlikely Weathers goes too deep given his limited work this year and the pen will still be taxed on Friday. Need to hope Musgrove and Paddack go deep today - tomorrow and conserve the pen for the LAD.

======

Myers knee makes him "day to day" ... I guess a problem stemming back to ST. Does not sound like a DL issue but if that takes him out of the line-up for a day or two .... really need Pham - Machado - Profar - Kim to step up from their early season performance.

While I had hoped for a sweep of the Pirates, probably was not realistic. 3 of 4 is still needed, so Musgrove just needs to be Musgrove. However, Paddack needs to pull his head out and deliver tomorrow.

One question for you guys.....Why is Pham in the line up ?

Teams don’t bench veteran players with career 122+ OPS after 39 AB. Plus considering the current alternatives are Mateo / O’Grady nether who could hit their way out of the minor leagues as regulars and Kim (with Profar in LF) who is benched for not hitting.

Bottom line is that Padres success is dependent on Pham returning to form (high probability) than the current alternatives changing their spots and becoming productive over the long run (low probability).

If Pham is not hitting into May ... more likely Preller is looking for a trade for OF help.

I agree that OF is going to have to be addressed at some time. I can see an overhaul of the OF in the off season. IMO we have two necessities on this team that need to be filled by a different OFer or two. I think SD needs another LHH power threat, and RHH CF option. At this time I am not a big Ona fan.

I would go all in on Conforto as a FA in the offseason. With Phams $10M coming off the books, that would account for about half of what I think Conforto will get per year.
