2021 Season
Quote from MrPadre19 on April 11, 2021, 12:35 pmI hate to say it but my thoughts are it’s his elbow.
Trainer had his hand on it when they stood together at the mound.
Was wiggling his fingers on the pitch before.I’m all for giving the spot to Weathers and bringing back Crismat.
Is Strahm out for the season?

Quote from fenn68 on April 11, 2021, 12:56 pmStrahm is NOT thought to be out for the season ... but not recovering as quickly as expected from the knee surgery ... not throwing as far as I know ... so maybe mid-season at best.
Morejon’s turn would be next Friday v the LAD ... outside chance they activate Lamet for that game otherwise Weathers is the only real other option. Don’t see Gore in the mix.
Unless the Morejon injury is a false alarm (doubt it).

Quote from fenn68 on April 11, 2021, 1:21 pmSince Stammen has been the target of critics for some time ... have to give him credit for coming in the 1st and giving a much needed 3.1 innings of shut out ball to contain the game and avoid undo strain on the pen. Clutch effort.

Quote from MrPadre19 on April 11, 2021, 2:57 pmI may have been the toughest on Stammen.
But props to him so far in 21’.
I much prefer him as the 2-3 inning long man than pitching after the 6th inning though TBH.
Never had a real problem with him other than I thought he was being used in too high leverage situations for his skill set.

I couldn't be happier to be wrong about Stammen today. He was the reason they won . He kept the pen from a really bad day that could've affected them for days. Bring back Crismet and hope the big 3 can give us some innings against Pittsburgh and rest the pen.
I'm not sure how I'm going to last 162 games plus playoffs with the nail biters we've had so far

Quote from fenn68 on April 11, 2021, 4:54 pmEven if Morejon’s injury is “minor” have to expect a 10 IL since they can’t afford to go short an arm in this stretch of games while he rests the elbow. Crismatt retuning makes the most sense (can go long and is familiar with the team) unless Altavilla or Johnson are ready.
The next four games v PITT: Darvish - Snell - Musgrove - Paddack. The Friday v LAD would have been Morejon’s spot. Doubt any of the options are going to give them a long start ... so that should be factored in ... but likely don’t want to over use the pen and them ready for closing out Sat-Sun with Darvish and Snell pitching.
1. Maybe Lamet factors in if he really did look good going 50+ pitches yesterday and could give them 3-4 innings then bring in Weathers to give them 2-3 innings. Probably set the workload to have both primed for that day.
2. Maybe take option #1 and move that to WED ... slide Musgrove back a day to give him some extra time from the 112 pitch outing ... slide Paddack (I know) to Friday and pray.
3. If they don’t want to risk Lamet back now and don’t want Paddack v LAD ... saw a comment that Gore has been stretched out to 5 innings / 90 pitches at the alternate site ... maybe ... big challenge debut for him but also an unknown to LAD hitters.
4. Or the most obvious ... just let Weathers get the start with Crismatt / Stammen ready for a long relief role in needed.
Of course this is Preller and the obvious sometimes does not happen.

Quote from MrPadre19 on April 11, 2021, 5:22 pmI was really hoping when Lamet came back we could just piggyback Morejon and Paddack.
Maybe can still happen but I fear the worst for Morejon.

Quote from fenn68 on April 12, 2021, 12:09 pmPadres need to get some longer starts from Darvish and Snell in the next two games. Padres used 5 RP on Sat and 6 RP on Sunday. Melancon and Hill went both days. Think the Padres have had more innings out of RP than any ML team (and the best ERA).
Will probably need the pen fresh for the coming starts from Paddack and Morejon’s replacement and really want the pen at peak form for the LAD.
Right now this pace will wear them out before May I fear.
Need to get another RP up and IL Morejon now. Crismatt is probable but, depending on how they looked at the alternate site, could Humphreys or Norwood be options ... think both could go multiple innings based on their histories.
