FTJr. too busy trying to learn new positions to actually just play.

Personally don’t like the way they are handling Tatis … compounded by this is (was) a playoff run. Taking a 22 year old who is still trying to learn SS defensively (he is not good at SS) but is the driving force offensively and emotionally and dropping him in the OF where he has little experience … can’t do much to keep Tatis on focus and, may make other players question the game plan.

Yes, they want to “protect him” but he has had injuries from base running and swinging the bat and does that come at the expense of reducing team productivity?

Yes, he COULD be an elite defensive OF … he is not now and how much does struggling at a new position cut into his productivity.

If the Padres wanted to convert Tatis to an OF … best deal with that in the winter and ST so he comes in ready (or they learn he can’t handle the OF) … NOT in a playoff push.

I guess for the longer view … from a pure baseball view … his bat will play anywhere so where to they best minimize his defensive limitations or develop his best defensive option. That will take time. From a more holistic view the dynamic impact of Tatis when at SS (center of play) impacts the rest of the team (for the better) and frankly the fans get to see him play more which is what the fans want.

Sort of the failed approach with Myers … just because the has the athletic ability to move around does not mean you should if you want to maximize his production.

2022 … put him at SS and leave him there … get your OF elsewhere.

HALLELUJAH!

Nice to hear I'm not the only one with these thoughts.

He's gotta go, for all the reasons I've mentioned. Bad choice( coroberated here) AJ........

Do you think that maybe the reason "real" Balsley really stepped down from the team was that he was tired of working with these bonehead managers that Preller has hired the last two times.

If they bring back Boch, can we get Balsley back as well?

Oooohhhh.....never thought of that!

Could be? He's still in the organization, yes?

Bochy would certainly be a good choice as well- ex Padre, ex Padre manager, 3 time World Series Champ.....yeah, I think he'd carry more weight in the clubhouse than Tingler.

I am guessing Bochy does not want to come back (at least to this organization). He knows he is not a fit with this front office ... and this front office is not changing for Bochy. At his age and level of success he does not need to compromise his approach for a job.

I like Balsley but really, other than some good RP success ... did any SP achieve major success? Probably not his fault given what he was given to work with ... but no guarantee of improvement with him.

13 games to play ... 4 games behind STL in the loss column and tied with CINN and PHIL in the loss column. Going to be hard enough to catch STL without them collapsing but also have to out play PHIL and CINN ... odds of getting that last wild card has to be slim heading for none.

This coming 3 game set with the Giants ... likely with Musgrove, Velasquez, and Darvish ... will set up the next moves. Lose ground to STL (and CINN/PHIL) and the choices for SP vs ATL next weekend may change to prospect auditions ... e.g. Martinez, Knehr, Gore, or even the "rested" Weathers.

I dont think they are that good to be honest. I still dont think we will finish the season above .500

Could be right given the pitching. Going 5 wins 8 losses down the stretch gets them to .500.

Probably 3 more starts for Musgrove and Darvish … and I guess Velasquez since no one else that matters. That sets-up 4 starts for random SP options. Considering games vs. SF -  ATL - LAD … not a good look.
