2021 In Season Trade Ideas

PreviousPage 8 of 16Next

Well with Gallo off the board to the NYY … Marte off the board to OAK …

Not seeing any teams in on Hosmer (or specifically his contract) and it appears SD will not eat enough to entice a buyer … so maybe he stays in SD …

Add Snell’s performance today

Does SP leap to the top of the target list?

Does the apparent immovably of Hosmer push Myers up as the preferred trade chip to clear money?

How much is still owed on Snell's deal? What would we be willing to eat? Maybe Tampa Bay would take him back if we paid half his salary? You know, addition by subtraction?

So based on what the Yankees gave up for Gallo we could have had him easily but obviously AJ isn’t making any more big moves without including Hosmer or Myers.

Both to make room and to save money.

Cause if it was OK to just add Gallo we could have easily beat the deal the Yanks gave them without touching our top 5 prospects.

WASH trades closer Brad Hand (FA after the season) to TOR for a 25 year old fringe ML player … C Riley Adams (USD).

Another deal with a surprising low return for one of the better RP options in a world that actually wants RP.

Interesting discussion on teams / agents leaking false interest in players to boost the returns or rattle other teams into expensive moves.

See that at the 11th hour Boston is rumored to be in the mix (and Scherzer would go). Does that incentivize maybe the LAD to pay more (or just close a deal) … reducing their assets for other moves? Does that rattle the cages of TB and NYY to do even more using up their trade assets?

On the other hand, did the NYY trade for Gallo get BOST ownership nervous to push for a deal? AL East and AL Wild Card is close enough that would not take much for one of BOST/TB/NYY slide out of the playoffs.

For MrPadre19 … have not heard much on Atlanta’s trade deadline strategy.

They seem “close enough” in the NL East that a hot streak could overtake struggling Mets and Phils and not way out of the Wild Card.

They sadly are without Acuna (torn ACL for season) and Ozuna (injury and domestic issue … likely for season). Pache / Waters (top prospects) have not developed.

Their payroll is not that high and a lot of FA after the season giving them a low base for 2022.

So, is it possible they could be a home for Myers if the Padres have to hold on to Hosmer? Padres would be able to create some financial (lux tax) wiggle room for future adds so don’t really need a major return piece if ATL takes the contract.

Would you prefer a package of Davies and Kimbrel over Scherzer or Berrios?

If this season has taught us anything(and the Dodgers) it's that you really can't have enough starting pitching.

That being said...if we get a guy(like Berrios) controllable past this season....what do we do next season with all these Starters.

If we "assume" they are all healthy to start next season, what do we do with eight Starters?

Darvish/Berrios/Lamet/Clevinger/Musgrove/Snell/Paddack/Weathers.....and this doesn't factor in Gore yet.

I guess in this scenario Weathers and Paddack are in the Pen....but what about Snell?

Maybe Clev is stashed on the il to start the season regardless of health in case of injury?

Does AJ trade one(or two) in the offseason?

If so.....who and what for?

Good problem to have, again, but something to think about.

Given the trade chips to get them are the same:

  1. Berrios
  2. Scherzer
  3. Davies / Kimbrel

In reality the trade chips would not be the same (and neither would the cost assumed).

Start the season with Darvish, Berrios, Lamet, Clevinger, and Musgrove. Lamet goes 4 innings and gets piggy backed by Weathers. Both will have inning limits again next season. Paddack becomes trade fodder, probably starts the season in AAA. Snell, have to wait and see what happens with the balance of the season, hope he bounces back. Then you can look to trade him, or he is there during Spring for the inevitable injury.
