Pham in LF, Turner in CF, and slide Grisham to RF . Send Hosmer to BOS, and then Myers becomes back up 1B and OF platoon. Then next season when Pham is a FA, Myers to LF, Turner in CF, and Grisham in RF. Find a fourth OF/DH, and rotate guys through DH.

Finish this season with a batting order of Turner, Frazier, Tatis, Crone, Machado, Grisham, Pham, Nola/Caratini, Pitcher.

Doubt that works for MINN.

Part of the Weathers part was the idea that MINN wants to be in play again in 2022 and Weathers could step right in the rotation and be effective. Gore may not even be a ML candidate in 2022 (or ever).

Scherzer has me confused. He is owed something like $37MM for 2021 but half is deferred (along with money from previous years so his contract owes him $15MM/yr for the next 7 years). So what does the buying team owe to Scherzer and what stays with WASH. Add to that, how is the luxury tax calculated in 2021 and future years?

I see WASH want a deal in place in the next day or two so the prospective buyer can work out contract details with Scott Boras in order to get the no-trade waived.

Everything is negotiable but not easy.

Scherzer may be the better pitcher for the second half of 2021 but is expensive and could crimp other upgrades and is a FA after the season. Berrios is not quite as good but much more favorable contract and controlled in 2022. Berrios probably will cost more in trade assets.

So, move a prospect today saves money (from Hosmer’s contract), saves prospects for the future, opens money for a FA signing in the winter to help win in 2022.

The KC article (my interpretation) would have KC getting Hosmer, Gore or Hassell, two other prospects for … I guess Duffy.

That deal may or may not work but the concept does make some sense given the secondary impacts of keeping Hosmer.

Hard to really know the view the Padres have of the top 4 but for me Abrams and Hassell would be the two that are untouchable … high ceiling hitters that can play defense are just hard to get and also have the better chance of developing than pitchers. I would put Gore (getting really worried about his future) and Campusano since the Padres have alternatives for the next two years (and some question about his defense).
