Outside of Tatis and Cronenworth, can someone name a player with Preller’s fingerprints who has lived up to expectations or even in the neighborhood of expectations?

Machado and Grisham come to mind quickly. Caratini as well.

I love Machado but let’s be honest, he is not living up to his contract.  Great player to watch for sure but he is making large money.

Really? He is 1st among NL 3B for RBIs and stolen bases, 2nd for doubles and slugging percentage, and 4th for BA, OBP, and OPS, and 5th in HRs. While playing better defense than all the others, except for Arenando. And historically, 3B have been paid to drive in runs, and in all the NL, he is #2 in RBIs.

I will take that from a $30M a year player any day.

I hear you.....but for $30 million?  In relation to the output we get from Myers and Hosmer it’s a steal.  But across MLB not so sure.

He was 3rd in MVP voting just last season.

He's playing gold Glove defense.

He's doing just fine even considering his paycheck.

But,he is one of the reasons you need the CJ Abrams and Robert Hassells of the world and why you just can't trade them all.

Dont hate the player, hate the game! 🙂 The market is what the market is, right.

I would take Machado's performance at $30M over Harpers $30M production.

Marisnick ... low cost in 2021 / mutual option (at $4MM) next season (although mutual options are almost never exercise). Not sure why ...

Usually a player plays better than his contract and so he opts out to get paid more, or the player underplays his contract, so the team opts out. It would have to play out just right for the mutual option to be exercised, which is apparently a rare occurrence.

It will be interesting to see what the Padres do with Marisnick.

Preller indicated that he would be mostly a late inning defensive replacement at all three slots (not at the same time mind you). Also, hit occasionally vs. LHP.

Pretty sure they decline the option and let him go to preserve the 40 man slot for the winter (plus a $4MM hit for a fringe player).

Listen to Preller's post deadline interview .... basically said the report that they were close on the Scherzer deal was bogus ... when they heard that report .... he said they had not spoken to WASH for 7 hours and did not have a deal in place.

Someone was getting played by WASH? by Boras? to maybe kick others into upping their offers?

I guess one clue that the rumor was questionable was than at no point in the following hours there was any indication of player going back to WASH ... in that kind of deal if it were close ... names would have been leaked with the rumor or soon after.
