2021 In Season Trade Ideas

Well you know I am a "trade prospects for proven major leaguers" guy.
Been preaching it for many years.
But....we've been doing that now and are at a $180+ mil payroll with two guys making $30+ mil per.
It's a little different now than it was just a few years ago.
We need guys like Abrams/Hassell/Campy/Gore etc so we can keep guys like Tatis and Machado and also be able to afford guys like Cronenworth and Grisham as their cost goes up.
If we trade them all now we will have a payroll issue in a couple years.

Don't forget "trading prospects" is about all Preller has been doing for the past year+ to get Darvish, Snell, Musgrove, Clevinger, Nola, Pham, et. al.
Not a never ending supply of quality prospect trade chips left. I focus on "quality" since many could be traded but not get a major return most seek.
Think they are down to Abrams, Hassell, and Campusano ... Gore is probably not drawing peak interest given his current state (someone would take him but not for what he WAS worth).
Then the better prospects are probably low A and below.
Padres are already going to have problems in 2023 and 2024 backfilling the FA after paying Tatis, Cronenworth, Grisham, Weathers. Need some internal pieces ... can't do it all with signing FA at top dollar.

Kimbrel to CWS for Madrigal and a RP. Good deal for both I think. Madrigal a high prospect 2B who has made it to the ML (kid can hit ... Pedroia type.

Toronto paid a huge price for Berrios, the equivalent of us giving up Gore and Hassell. This package was probably better than the Nats received for Scherzer and Turner. I wouldn't go there either if I was Preller.
Looking ahead, if we don't get another SP, we get Hudson, Strahm, Lamet and a relatively fresh Pomeranz added to the bullpen. They will join Adams, Johnson, Pagan, Melancon, Stammen and Hill and backed by Crismatt, Diaz, Ramirez, Norwood and maybe Avila or Wilson. That group should get us through the next 2 months. SP's will continue to be Darvish, Musgrove, Snell, Paddack, Weathers with Knehr and possibly Westphal supporting them; don't expect to see Gore any time soon. Still hoping we land one SP to overcome the injuries/inconsistencies in the current rotation, however, can't force anyone to trade with us.
We need the offense to carry us the next two months, so we'll see what happens. I'm still hoping for a playoff spot but keys guys need to perform to their potential.

WASH continues house cleaning ... moving Josh Harrison and Yan Gomes.
CUBS in the same vein report moving Baez to Mets (and also maybe Davies).
Both are all in reverse.

Damn, at this point might as well get Kris Bryant. Our outfield sucks and he can help for the rest of the season. Sounds like the Cubs would take a piece of gum and a paper clip in exchange.
Lots of teams are getting better today and the Padres are ..............nothing.

Facts, we wouldnt need to scramble for upgrades if our guys lived up their their standards. Looking at you Snell.
