2021 In Season Trade Ideas
Quote from BoosterSD on July 30, 2021, 7:36 amQuote from fenn68 on July 30, 2021, 4:40 amSounds as though Berrios has become Preller’s #1 target … so until that quest fails … probably any other major deal is back burner since good chance the same piece would be needed in any major deal.
Berrios should cost at least one of the Top 4 prospects or Weathers (maybe Lamet) since pretty sure his price has risen post Scherzer deal. Good and controlled in 2022 has a lot of buyers in the queue.
I would think that most of the high end prospects that went to WAS from the LAD was due to Turner being involved in the deal, not for Whiplash Scherzer.

Quote from BoosterSD on July 30, 2021, 7:37 amQuote from fenn68 on July 30, 2021, 4:48 amHeard speculation about the Cubs (post Rizzo) as a potential home for Hosmer.
Part of the logic is that their payroll is really dropping with all the major FA departing after this season (and next) giving them a lot of payroll flexibility. Adding Hosmer would give them that clubhouse guy as they bring in the prospects in a rebuild and clearly Hosmer will come with a prospect to help offset the contract.
Long shot move.
I still think BOS could be a spot for Hosmer as well. Schwarber doesnt really help them at that position. Unless they put Kiki at 1B and keep Schwarber in LF.

Really only two “high end” prospects plus a couple of others. Probably Scherzer by himself couldn’t get one of them but Turner could probably have yielded only one … but the whole is bigger than the sum of its parts … so dealing for both gets them two.
Seems as though the “bundle” by Rizzo … in this case … actually yielded more than two individual deals.

Agree. Schwarber at 1B … defensively … is a problem (but so is LF).
Given the NYY are set-up to pummel opponents with Judge - Stanton - Gallo - Rizzo .. lest we not forget LeMahieu … Boston may feel the need for more offense. Their line-up the other day left a lot to be desired for a playoff team.

Quote from BoosterSD on July 30, 2021, 8:55 amAccording to MLBTR, MINN expects SD to be the most aggressive in attempting to get Berrios. With TAM, NYM, NYY, and SEA all still having interest.
I still see the possibility of a 3 team deal involving BOS, MINN, and SD. Where Berrios, Hosmer, prospects, and money change hands.

Quote from MrPadre19 on July 30, 2021, 9:12 amFour hours to go and Scherzer to Dodgers deal still not official.
Lets get Berrios and then let that deal fall through at the last minute so the Duds and Nats both get screwed….would serve them right.

Well now MLBTR has Toronto in the lead for Berrios ... expect "false rumors" abounding (maybe generated by MINN) to pump up the price. Could be right ... could be wrong ... just the game for the next 3 1//2 hours.
Interesting NOT to see rumors on Bryant or Kimbrell accelerating. Sort of low key on that front.

Totally with you there!
Great have the Duds come away with nothing.
Wondering if Preller still kicking the tires?

That would be a great trade for us.
Move Hosmer 's money and grab an SP.
I'm on board!

Has to be because of the negotiation with Boras on what it will take to waive the no trade clause since my understanding is the LA and WASH have agreed on the players and salary split. That could take to the last minute.
Long long shot but IF the LA deal fall through (and expect there is a deadline between WASH and LA prior to 1 PM) and then leaving time to "fall back" to their next best offer ... Padres (who may or may not have and the Boras discussion as yet). No real time to negotiate waiving the no trade unless well down that path.
99.9% the LA deal is done ... but it ain't over until it is over.
