2021 In Season Trade Ideas

PreviousPage 11 of 16Next

But we were giving much less because it was just the rental of Scherzer….not also Turner and also Turner for next season.

Nationals completely dismantling right now…..

Scherzer….Turner….Schwarber….Hand….all gone today.

Nationals keep on going:

Padres Expected To Acquire Daniel Hudson From Nationals

10:31 pm: The deal is agreed upon, reports Jim Bowden of the Athletic (via Twitter). Pitching prospect Mason Thompson is expected to head back to Washington, reports Dennis Lin of the Athletic (on Twitter).

Pretty decent RP ... FA after the season.

The Dud deal isn't final yet, is it?

Why is it we never hear about the Dud's farm system? They've obviously got the best prospects in the sport, year in, year out yet the past 4 or 5 years WE'VE been touted as the best.

Our system is NOWHERE near as good as the Dud's- never has, never will be. They bring up top players yearly, yet still manage to swing deals for the best available players.

They are LOADED- from top to bottom and are ALWAYS reloading.

That's before you throw in all the money!

Disagree.

Should have kept our young controllable arm. We really don't have many.

Preller so far has been the master of deception- all smoke and mirrors, slight of hand.

Our window to win narrows by the hour.  Time to do something of substance.

I hate this deal....2 month rental for a guy who won't resign with SD and give up 2 young guys....I know the 2,3,4 or even 5 for 1 trade fans are okay with this but this smacks of a panic move.....missed out on Gallo, missed out on Scherzer but if you don't have anymore guys to trade because of over pay in the past........

Now if Rizzo is actually leaving the Cubs maybe a trade with the Cubs ???

What would it take to get another 2 month rental.....Kris Bryant, Craig Kimbral or a starter .......Pham,Snell, Hosmer and ???

Padres got a veteran RP in Hudson who is pitching well for a playoff run and honestly gave up two players that are long shots for sustained ML success. Thompson has the stuff but an injury riddled / ineffective career … and is now a RP. Barley is that classic 4 tool talent who just can’t hit in low A and has been around long enough to be Rule 5 eligible.

What will be interesting in a few days … with the add of Hudson and the apparent near return of Lamet and Strahm … all likely pen … who do they replace? Crismatt for sure then they could move up to 14 pitchers (end of Mateo?) but next one?

A new IL candidate … Snell? Does the next trade clear a spot?

Sounds as though Berrios has become Preller’s #1 target … so until that quest fails … probably any other major deal is back burner since good chance the same piece would be needed in any major deal.

Berrios should cost at least one of the Top 4 prospects or Weathers (maybe Lamet) since pretty sure his price has risen post Scherzer deal. Good and controlled in 2022 has a lot of buyers in the queue.

Heard speculation about the Cubs (post Rizzo) as a potential home for Hosmer.

Part of the logic is that their payroll is really dropping with all the major FA departing after this season (and next) giving them a lot of payroll flexibility. Adding Hosmer would give them that clubhouse guy as they bring in the prospects in a rebuild and clearly Hosmer will come with a prospect to help offset the contract.

Long shot move.
