Ben.... Gettys!  Don't feel so alone now putting him #38 in system...

Sure, but if Olivares rakes through ST in addition to last year's work I think his value and ceiling may exceed 4th OF. At the end of the day it's a results oriented business rather than an exercise in projection.

Not to take anything away the analysis above which is really great and helpful. Just kind of making a supplemental point.

As Fenn pointed out, there is nothing wrong with being a 4th OF.  If Franchy is the 4th OF (and stays healthy) he will probably be in over 100 games and collect over 300 AB.

The main reason that I dont think Olivares makes the club no matter how good of a spring he has is, he has all his options still, and as with any good prospect, you want them to collect AB every game.  If Olivares makes the team, it would be as a 5th OF.  Is he taking a starting job away from Pham/Grisham/Myers/Naylor/Franchy?  If so how many?  Exactly.

Also, ST numbers can be incredibly deceiving.  Look at the ST numbers from any year and youll see quite a few names that were never productive at the MLB level at the top of the charts.  Someone pointed out on twitter yesterday that a few years ago the Padres' HR ST leaders were Austin Hedges and Anderlin Rodriguez.  All-Stars!

I've seen him in Elsinore, El Paso, and ST.  There is so much talent there, but MAN his swing just doesnt get better.  He has the power, fielding, arm, and speed to be an above average player, but he creates so much breeze with his empty swings there are constant tornado warning in El Paso.  If he can lower it even a bit, he can be a solid utility player in the majors (can play all 3 OF positions, good speed, and has the ability to PH HR).  But not if he strikes out 36%

Going to be in Peoria 14th thru the 21st. My wife and I are staying at the Cibola Vista Resort and Spa in Peoria.  Any suggestions for local food or drinks ? We don't like to go to chain restaurants . Ay ideas for things to do around the area ?  We are going to at least 1 game and will be looking for other things to do to keep her happy. Thanks for the help.

So I think we are maybe conflating an issue or two. I am saying if he rakes in ST and with his recent performance in MiLB I believe his "ceiling" is best described as a starter.  Fenn said there is nothing wrong with a 4th OF and I believe, if I am reading correctly, he asserted that his ceiling is a 4th OF. I disagree with his position on "ceiling," but understand it.

There is a distinction between realistic projection and a ceiling.  Admittedly all such assertions are subjective.

If he makes the team it has been repeated that it would likely be as a 4th or 5th OF. As all, including myself have stated, we dont expect that to happen given the current composition of our team, and the likely result that he would lose valuable reps if that were to happen.

If he does not make the team as a 4th or 5th OF, what about as the starting CF. I know this is far fetched, but if he continues to play at a high level does it make sense to keep him down if he out plays/hits Grisham and Cordero who may still have options? I know this is a reach, but just thinking out loud as one does...

Not raising the issue again just clarifying my earlier comments.

Meanwhile GRISHAM says BOOOOM!... HR for the young lad... Davies was so typical Davies -- in 1st-- runs into all kinds of trouble  single/double/walk.. 0 outs--- gets out of it with only giving up 1 run..

There is a place called Haymakers, my wife and I just tried it the other night and enjoyed it, Happy Hour is every night from 6-9. On the other side of the street, is a place called the Lakeside Bar and Grill. And on the outside of the 303 loop is the V Tap Room at the Trilogy Golf Club. My wife enjoyed a place called Twisted Italian, Ive never been.

As far as other things to do, I only work and golf, so no help there.

If you are only going to 1 or 2 games; unless youve never been and have your heart set on seeing a game at Peoria, I would go to almost any of the other ballparks instead of the Peoria Sports Complex. IMO its still one of the worst in the Valley, despite the money they have put into it.

Man everytime I think I have the 26 someone else whom I forgot about puts their name in tge hat Vosler and Almonte having themselves a nice afternoon.. Lamet very strong today

Remember last year pre-Machado when many of us were saying Pads "had to" protect Vosler from Rule 5 & penciling him in as O.D. 3B?
