How would we rank OF in the pipeline? If we exclude Franchy, Grisham  and Naylor, I think Olivares is substantially ahead of Trammel and in first spot.

If we keep Franchy, Grisham, and Naylor in the discussion, I would argue that Olivares has to be in consideration of the top spot given his mix of offensive and defensive skills. My point is this, it's at least close right?

Btw Gore raved about Arias the other day on 97.3. Only other player he raved about that I have seen is Tatis.

I am a proponent of the early call up for talented, next level guys. Not sure I am behind the seasoning school of thought for those types. They seem made for big challenges.

Anyone watching? listening? to today's game?  Any info on why Morejon came out mid 2nd inning?

Pitch count. Think he was at 36 when he got pulled.

Struck out Ohtani and Rendon. I was just worried he was injured, so good to hear.  The word is he is in much better condition this year.

He does look less pudgy and more solid this year than he did last year.

As far as right now... Olivares might beat out Ornelas for the second spot just because of proximity to the majors.

I like Olivares, but his ceiling is as a 4th OF.  He might be a top prospect in weaker organizations, but gets lost in the Padres deep prospect list.

While 2nd isnt bad, ahead of him is 2 former All-Star (Pham/Myers), top 50 prospect (Trammell), and 2 top 100 prospects (Naylor/Grisham).  Thats not counting Franchy.  Also not counting the idea that CJ Abrams will probably be moved to CF (with Tatis and Arias in the infield).  Also dont sleep on Hudson Head, he was turning heads at instructs.  Ona got a huge bonus and started to show it last year before getting hurt.  And we havent talked about Tirso (really high ceiling but a low floor too) and Rosario (great eye but NO power, needs to change before he falls further).  And not counting a few others that turned heads, or Michael Gettys who I refuse to give up on after hitting 31 HR last year.

Sure, but if Olivares rakes through ST in addition to last year's work I think his value and ceiling may exceed 4th OF. At the end of the day it's a results oriented business rather than an exercise in projection.

Not to take anything away the analysis above which is really great and helpful. Just kind of making a supplemental point.

There is a lot value in a quality 4th OF ... so should embrace that ceiling when someone can handle all 3 spots defensively and provide some offense.

Tatis will end up in CF in a few years and be elite. Arias takes SS and Abrams 2B.

2023.

Scatter the other OF prospects in the corners.
