Haha I take no shame. I did project Olivares as having a breakout ST so I am enjoying the ride.

I would be thrilled to start seeing a few homegrown positional players  besides Tatis solidify as contributors / all stars.

I agree.....for quite awhile the whole motive / message to the Padre faithful was this organization was being built from the Farm up so that once the Padres became a contender they always remained as such and it starts on the farm. AJ has done a great job of collecting quality prospects and seeing some of them at Petco this year and for the next 2 or 3 years to go along with the Major League talent is the payoff all of us have been waiting for. Growth and depth can be painful but when it starts to pay off the excitement becomes the pulse of the city....The Padres have the whole place to themselves from a professional standpoint.

The hottest ticket in town will be trying to get into Petco when this team just goes to the next level.....no more rebuild when they arrive....just reload 🙂

Don't need no WAR either....just like Edwin Starr said and the lyrics fit

With all the additions and changes to the outfield....can Olivares make the opening day roster?

Even without any injuries I mean?

Unless he starts, I am not sure it is in his best interest. He needs to be playing daily. He appears to be developing and I would not want to halt his progress.

Either I see him as the starter in CF or any OF in the minors.

With Myers in RF, I see it as either Grisham or Olivares (assuming they both perform well in ST).

Cordero, Naylor, and Olivares should be playing every day wherever they are (i.e. Naylor at 1B or DH). All three are potential starters and can build trade value if playing daily.

Without injuries... 0.01% chance.  He is on the 40 man which helps, but it is hard to find a scenario without injuries or trades where Pham, Grisham, Myers, Naylor, and Franchy arnt the OF (or Lagares if Franchy is injured).

He would have to continue excelling, and band aid alternatives Lagares & Almonte would have to really bomb.  I strongly believe one RH CF capable guy not named 'Wil Myers' is going to make the team--likely Lagares, and that team will go with 5 OF.

Olivares is a late bloomer & still learning nuances defensively at all the OF positions.  He would probably be better served by half a season+ playing every day at AAA.

As the Padres continue to improve, we're going to see something we haven't in probably 10-20 years; guys getting blocked & having to bide time in minors or force their way onto roster.... this is Good!

I have a feeling Naylor (if Franchy is healthy) /Perdomo and Guerra all end up being traded for either a complimentary MLB piece/or soon to be piece, OR a couple/3 younger lotto tickets in A/Rookie ball...

I would say Olivares has a real chance to beat out Lagares (for that spot- wether is the 26th or the 1st OFer called up from AAA) without injuries or trades---

Lookout for C on other teams going down as well-- If say someone loses a C for a month + and Torrens continues to rake, I would not be surprised if Hedges moves... or if we package a deal (as per above + for a Contreras (huge upgrade) or a McCann (redundant with Grandal in town) less costly..

Not sure if he EVER starts in SDP-- if Franchy stays healthy. Grisham and TT claim the other 2 spots -- in 21/22... So if he is going to be the 4th OF'er.. doesnt make sense to keep him in AAA if he is ready now... If he needs further development in Padres eyes -- then yes keep him in AAA... Ona is eventually going to push everyone (if he stays healthy and continues to rake as he has been since before his injury last season) for a position in COF with his middle of the order Bat potential//// Good problem to have tbh

How would we rank OF in the pipeline? If we exclude Franchy, Grisham  and Naylor, I think Olivares is substantially ahead of Trammel and in first spot.

If we keep Franchy, Grisham, and Naylor in the discussion, I would argue that Olivares has to be in consideration of the top spot given his mix of offensive and defensive skills. My point is this, it's at least close right?

Btw Gore raved about Arias the other day on 97.3. Only other player he raved about that I have seen is Tatis.

I am a proponent of the early call up for talented, next level guys. Not sure I am behind the seasoning school of thought for those types. They seem made for big challenges.
