A Fond Farewell to an Incredibly Fun Padres Season
Quote from hoffy51 on October 9, 2020, 9:23 amVery fun, rewarding season. I was really glad Morejon got the last start. No matter what the outcome, it was an important step for him. I expect that he will be one of our five starters next season.
Love the coaching staff.
Several players made significant improvement this season.
I was surprised that Richards didn't play a bigger part of the rotation at the end of the season and in the playoffs. No one fell further than the sheriff . . . err . . . Paddock. From opening day starter to eh! I am no expert, but the introduction of a third pitch for him seemed to derail him. He might be better off being a fastball-slider guy out of the bull pen.
But great season (and great uniforms).

Per MLBTradeRumors-As per Fangraphs' pitch value and slider runs above average (wSL) metrics, Keller had the third-most effective slider of any pitcher in baseball, behind only DINELSON LAMET and Zach Plesac.

Quote from MrPadre19 on November 2, 2020, 5:57 pmOne of the pitfalls of a 60 game season is that a 10 game slump cost Tatis the MVP award.
He isn’t even a finalist.
Ouch!

Quote from Randy Manese on November 2, 2020, 7:55 pmThis certainly will be a motivator for Tatis Jr. in 2021. In a year when many top of the line shortstops will be hitting free agency, it is entirely possible that Tatis Jr. will have the best stats of them all. Better get that extension done, however many years we can get, as soon as possible.

Quote from hoffy51 on November 3, 2020, 8:08 pmTrent Grisham snares Gold Glove! With a full season, maybe a 25-30 home run, 75 RBI, 30 SB guy. Not bad. Not bad at all! Especially because the Brewers traded him because they were suspect of his fielding!

Congratulations to Trent! I'm really surprised but excited he won! The exciting thing is that he has a lot of room to grow DEFENSIVELY. Offensively, I worry about some regression over a longer season (even more so with Cronenworth). Think those #'s would be stunning absolute peak potential. I could live with less than that if the short season wasn't a "fluke" defensively.
It's official that trade is a HUGE win. Egregious for Milwaukee to not realize they had this caliber of a CF.

Quote from fenn68 on November 4, 2020, 9:33 amGrisham really out performed his scouting report from just prior to the trade .... and in a world that is really short on good CF with a combo of offense and defense he appears to be one that will be around for some time even with some regression for 2020 levels.
Given what else was going on with the Padres, in a sense he flew under the radar that was focused on Tatis, Machado, and Cronenworth.
Turns out to be a plus plus deal by Preller with both Grisham and Davies producing while Urias and Lauer being supporting cast in MILW. I guess with Cain in MILW long term contact for CF and Yelich in a corner ... Grisham may just have been the "spare part" that was better used as a trade chip and Urias as a highly ranked INF was something they really needed. Seemed like a good idea at the time.
