2020 Playoffs

I don't get to see all the interviews and quotes out East so I don't always know what these guys are saying before and after games.

But Davies didn't fare much better and despite both not performing very well it would have been a lifetime of blaming Paddack for those

3 innings even though he had no business being the game 1 starter anyway.

I like that he's confident...but if you keep talking and not backing it up you need to chill with the rhetoric until the results match.

I do think this is different than Hedges stubbornness about his offense because I think Paddack puts in the work and will not hesitate to do what it takes to get back to early 2019 level.

But not running his mouth "before" hand would be a good place to start.

Too soon to make a final call on Paddack but not too soon to start being a bit more critical. Not uncommon for a second year player to find ML more difficult as opponents adapt. What to watch is how the player adjusts. At the same time self-confidence is important to be successful ... but when does that get in the way of making adjustments and turn to stubbornness?

With Lamet and Clevinger back next year and Gore, Patino, Morejon, and Weathers on the fast track ... he may be really squeezed in 2021 unless he develops ... quickly.

=====

Davies will also be a question mark with 2021 being his last control year ... remember I like Davies.

Think Davies is very effective as a SP during the regular 162 game schedule ... he gives innings and sandwiched between a couple of hard throwers he just messes with the opponent batters. His sub-3.00 ERA will win them games.

HOWEVER, I don't think he is a guy you go with in a playoff game against quality teams who can be patient and are contact oriented. He needs to go against those impatient teams swinging for the fences. Limits his use in my mind.

Basically Davies can be a key to get a team to the playoffs but not a key to win in the playoffs. #4/#5 SP.

Was wondering.....without home playoff games with fans, are the playoff teams making extra $ even for making the playoffs?

Anyone know how that works?

Was thinking the more we win the better chance we keep a $150 mil payroll.

But....are we making more?

Not necessarily right but I was under the impression that the national playoff TV revenues were shared equally among the teams.

Wonderful season. With a healthy Lament and Clevinger, plus Davis I think we can compete with the Dodgers (the best team in baseball), but with a recovering Clevinger, Paddock and Davis, I don't think so. If we could somehow win two out of the first four games, and get to game five, if Clevinger in recovered enough to be at full strength and pitch effusively, and if the bats come alive. Maybe. But with our best pitcher out vs the best team in baseball. The odds are not in our favor. Irregardless, great, great season. Very encouraging.

That’s the question.

Is Playoff TV money spilt evenly among “all” teams or just all “Playoff” teams?

Certainly there has to be some monetary advantage to making the playoffs this year right?

I'm 98% sure the playoff TV revenue is split equally among all teams.  It's more helping teams mitigate massive losses THIS season then creating "extra" $ for next year.  It's hard for me to envision a scenario where Pads exceed 150 MM Opening Day payroll in 2021.

The PLAYERS on the Padres get more of the 50 MM playoff pool that was cut out from TV revenue the further they make it in playoffs.  VERY significant to esp the pre-arb guys who only made 37% of minimum salaries this year.  That $ only goes to players whose teams made the playoffs.  Not sure how it's split except obviously W.S. winners get most, W.S. losers 2nd most, etc.

Not sure who gets gate $ from the games allowing 11K+ fans in Arlington.  Might just be the Rangers?  Or would some go to the 2 teams playing the game since mostly "their" fans?

Finally... we're WAY off topic here...

So basically the Padres aren’t making any more money than the Pirates in 2020.

Thats so”Padres”.

Best team in our history....playoffs “finally”,no fans allowed and no extra revenue.

I was about to come here and say that as far as Dodgers go I kind of like Kershaw and respect him....but I hope he gives up 4 runs in the first and is pulled by the 4th.

Now he isn't gonna make the start at all.

If he was going to be "Post season" Kershaw this may help LA...but if he was going to be 2020 Kershaw...this hurts them.

Either way....now they can get a taste of trying to win in the playoffs without your top starters available.

Margot the star of game 2 for the Rays and Renfroe the star of game 3.
