Padres used him in both games and even though he is "hurting" is that enough to advantage the Padres with a fresh arm ... clearly not from STL perspective. STL probably could argue some of their pitchers are "hurting" too. Think of the blowback if the replacement was a "healthy" Lamet for game 3 starter.
Probably doesn't help the Padres knew he was hurting as they removed him from the IL and added him to the playoff roster.
That sounds way too subjective. Unusual format this year, that could get totally abused in the coming Best of 5 & especially best of 7 rounds... guy going on IL after getting used up for a "ringer" for the deciding game of series...
More likely a move doesn't get made and if they advance, Strahm maybe not on the roster for the next series.... largely the injury, but maybe more that they need more length in pen, possibly a SP. Of course, Clev &/or Lamet would be first in line...

Anything else fans want to know?
Padres: Friday marks only the second winner-take-all postseason game the Padres have taken part in -- and the first since Game 5 of the 1984 NL Championship Series, a 6-3 comeback win over the Cubs. But the Padres found themselves in a similar setting in 2007 -- needing a win to advance to the NLDS. They lost a 9-8 thriller to the Rockies in Game 163 (even though, upon further review, Matt Holliday probably did not touch home plate).Nice! 🙂

We are singling ourselves right out of the playoffs.
We have 8 hits.....all singles and none that produced a run.

Looked to me like he further aggravated it in his follow through off the mound.
He may have pitched in both games...but that doesn't mean he couldn't have gotten worse.
But,IF we survive tonight we could still leave him off the Division Series roster if he can't pitch and bring up another BP arm.
What are the chances they use Weathers instead of Gore?
Of course Gore is the higher ranked player...but Weathers is in the bubble for a reason and they might prefer to start his clock rather than Gores.Plus we don't know the details about why Gore has been working on his mechanics at Petco so much.
Maybe he just isn't as ready?
Regarding Castillo....is he 100% healthy?
I would have no issue pitching him if he is fully healthy over an injured twice used Strahm in the next round.

Quote from sportwarrior on October 2, 2020, 1:42 pmStammen has actually been pretty good in September... 9 games, 10 ip, 2 er, 10:0 k:bb. Only 2 dingers allowed all year, too, for what it's worth.
As far as our remaining fresh options go, I think he's a solid bet. I choose to believe he'll get it done!

Quote from fenn68 on October 2, 2020, 1:48 pmObservers say that Paddack, Davies, and Strahm are all milling about with the other relievers ... so should expect anyone (everyone) over the course of this game.
Moreland was a LHP for Miss State and we know Cronenworth was a closer ...
Padres have yet to use Myers on the mound ... so?????
=======
Stammen started 11 for the Nationals .... back in 2010 ... grasping at straws here. Hopefully can get an inning or two without damage before the parade starts.
