Quote from MrPadre19 on October 2, 2020, 3:43 amIf Strahm knee isn’t 100% could we place him on IR and recall someone?
Lucchesi?
Baez?
Anyone on the taxi squad with more experience?
Twitter calling for Gore.....just don’t see that happening.

You gotta BELIEVE!!! Ride that "O"!

See you tomorrow.
Remember how you felt after Game 4 of the 1984 NLCS? I do ...
And ... I remember how easy it was to get tickets to Game 5 ... MANY folks were out selling their tickets just too exhausted to do again the next day 🙂

Havent pitched yet:
Patino
Altavilla
HillPitched Game 1 but not Game 2: (so should be fresh)
StammenPitched Game 2 but not game 1: (should still be ok)
AdamsProbably unavailable: Strahm
Richards threw 10 pitches Day 1, and 3 pitches Day 2.
My GUESS is that Richards might get the start (Hes the most likely to be able to get through the first 2 innings without being overwhelmed by the stage). Then go to Patino for 2-3, then Morejon. Now its the 7th or 8th inning and you figure out where you are in the game. Would be fine with Adams closing. Let Richards, Morejon, and Patino go one time through the order, having both Morejon and Patino start at the bottom of the order. (so Richards faces 7 batters then pulled, Morejon and Patino both get 9)
I agree Richards should definitely start. I think at this point with the staff SO tapped out, that's how you extract the most out of him vs. a theoretical high leverage situation for fewer pitches that we may never get to with Patino starting...
Richards as long as he can go, then probably Patino & he could potentially go a few innings too.
Don't see how they can use Strahm again; HUGE props to him for gutting it out now & most of year on the balky knee. If he didn't come out of the game due to the injury, don't know if it's allowable to replace him on the roster?
Our 7-8-9 look pretty tapped out with back to backs of: Pagan -41, Pom - 37, and especially Rosenthal - 45 pitches.

We are singling ourselves right out of the playoffs.
We have 8 hits.....all singles and none that produced a run.
You were saying........... 🙂 🙂 🙂

This is a good question. If someone got injured in game where they were not available the next day, obviously you can, but a "grin & bear it" deal like his knee where he played through it, I don't know. I'm guessing (don't know) that if you put a guy on "IL" during playoffs they're done for the entire playoffs. Hence Lamet & Clevinger being on 12-man playoff taxi squad.
Lucchesi is NOT on the taxi squad, possibly because he was optioned down late in season, so wasn't yet eligible to be "recalled" for playoffs. So he can't be added this series. TBD if he can even be added to 12-man taxi squad next series; may not be allowed. I've been a Baez fan, but would not opt for him here.
I've been thinking since Paddack's game 1 disaster that Pads may HAVE to add Gore if they advance. Would play 5 games in 5 days, even if L & C BOTH came back, how many innings could they go? Not exactly a "soft landing", but maybe play the unfamiliarity card with Gore actually getting a start? So it's not insane to suggest it here for Game 3 given the alternatives! The other name I could see replacing Strahm either now or next series is Jose Castillo. Regular season few games experience I argued for sure would have helped, but power LH in pen next best option if injury too much for Strahm.
Either Gore (being Selected) or Castillo (being Activated off 45-IL) would require a roster move, but that would 99% chance be DFA Almonte who is not on the 12 man taxi squad.

Quote from Randy Manese on October 2, 2020, 9:44 amWin or lose today, gutty performance by the pitching staff and it was great to see the hitters regain their swagger. The energy in the dugout was what made this year memorable for me and I hope it continues beyond this game. Go Padres! Proud and loud!

Quote from fenn68 on October 2, 2020, 10:13 amIt actually would be a tough call for the Commissioner if the Padres wanted to put Strahm on the IL now ... and he has to approve such a move. Padres used him in both games and even though he is "hurting" is that enough to advantage the Padres with a fresh arm ... clearly not from STL perspective. STL probably could argue some of their pitchers are "hurting" too. Think of the blowback if the replacement was a "healthy" Lamet for game 3 starter.
Probably doesn't help the Padres knew he was hurting as they removed him from the IL and added him to the playoff roster.
