2020 Playoffs

PreviousPage 13 of 24Next

No Lamet and no Clevinger for the Wild Card round at least.

Ugh!

So if we are to advance it will be with Paddack/Davies/Bullpen.

If it wasn't for bad luck.......

So how many pitchers with sore elbows who opt to rest and not have TJ actually continue their careers without getting surgery?

It sure seems like every time this happens the player ends up with the surgery at some point.

We can't afford to have these guys getting surgery next May.

I can understand carrying 14 pitchers given down both Lamet and Clevinger ... good chance of a lot of mix and match if they go 3.

Bit surprised they activated Campusano over Mejia .... thought they would opt for the ML experience and the switch-hitting potential. Maybe gives a clue on how much the Padres like Campusano for the not too distant future.

Does it mean Lamet and Clevinger could still pitch considering they are still on the Taxi squad?

Wouldn't they have just left them,or one of them at least, off that too if they were definitely done for the year?

If they were 100% done for year they would have been left off.  So encouraging they are at least on there.

Definitely agree with the 14 P's on roster with both Lamet & Sunshine not.  SURPRISED to see Campusano > Mejia as the last position player.  Look for him to DH today batting 7th/8th vs LHP Kim.

Most surprising inclusions on the 12 man "Taxi" bringing the # of players up to 40:  LHP Jose Castillo & C Webster Rivas!  Gore & Weathers also, but they were expected.  Castillo is still on 45-day IL, so = a non-roster player.  If he went to the playoff roster, a 40-man move would have to be made.  Rivas they must have wanted 2 C's for the taxi squad that does have 8 Pitchers on it.

The 40-man roster players NOT on the taxi squad are:   LHP - Joey Lucchesi, RHP - Javier Guerra, RHP - David Bednar, and OF - Abraham Almonte.    Not sure if any changes can be made to that Taxi squad between series or not.   I speculated on the "30-man" thread that Lucchesi might not be eligible to be recalled until 10/2, since he was optioned on 9/22.   Seems like you might be allowed to "backfill" your taxi squad if a guy went up to active roster due to injury?

I assumed these 4 guys were in quarantine for the last week+ along with the 28 Active + 12 Taxi = 40 guys?  But maybe not, since that would have been 44 guys?  Aaah... Covid.

They could be activated for any of the other series ... so clearly not a definitive set of out of the playoff injuries.

Even if it is along shot .... not sure whomever they would have put in the bubble instead of them would have been of any value in the playoffs .... so take the risk they recover.

Game 1:

  1. Tatis, 2. Machado, 3. Hosmer (L), 4. Myers, 5. Pham-DH, 6. Cronenworth (L), 7. Nola, 8. Profar (S)-LF, 9. Grisham (L)

I get "splitting up" LH/RH with 3 batter rule in effect.  But I HATE Hosmer 3rd vs LHP when he hasn't hit them AT ALL for 3 years in a row.  Hope I'm wrong.  I would have gone more radical, but Tingler's riding the horse(s) that brought him.  3rd, 6th, 7th hitters have really struggled vs LHP all year.

Now that I've vented.....   GO PADRES!!!!

Right down the middle to the only guy that can really hurt you.

2-0 already!

Great start for Paddack!  This dude is a dud.

Can a series be over after one half inning?  Sure feels that way.
