2020 Playoffs

PreviousPage 12 of 24Next

Two games both home teams lost.

Houston 2nd in West beats MINN 1st in Central ... West is stronger?

CWS wild card from Central beats OAK 1st in West ... Central is stronger?

=======

Side note the "WEST" produced no wild card teams .... "CENTRAL" has three / "EAST" has one.

So either to top teams in the West are so powerful the buried all others in the West allowing the group of equally mediocre teams in the Central score enough wins to quality as wild cards ... OR the group of equally high quality teams in the Central battled each other to balanced good records to gain the wild cards while the mediocre West top teams beat up on the dregs of baseball in the rest of the West.

Paddack is starting!

Good for him.

Now let’s score 5-6 runs and win this game so Davies can start game 2.

Cardinals manager Mike Shildt said his team is expecting to face Chris Paddack in Game 1.

That would be a very interesting way to kick off a 3 game set.

Confirmed. Chris Paddack in Game 1.

Pressure!

One of those curiosities in MLB. Only 2 players have made their debut in MLB during the playoffs ... one Aldalberto Mondesi the other a SD guy .... Mark Kiger (2006 with OAK ... 2 games / zero AB ... 2B 1.2 innings one PO). What makes him more fascinating is that he never played in a ML regular season game ... ever. He had over 800 MiL games.

This strongly implies that (at least) 1 of Lamet & Clevinger are not ready to go.   Highly likely it's Davies game 2, leaving either 1 of those 2 or ??? for game 3.  Seemingly opens a playoff roster spot specifically for a P who can go long... hmmm.

I truly believe Paddack can & will step up to the challenge.  He lives for this stuff & is not going to shrink in the limelight.  He needs to come out & go right the #%)^ at this undewhelming lineup; no nibbling .

Well two ex-Padres are liking the playoffs so far.

Margot has 2 hits including a 2 run HR in TB's 3-0 lead.

Naylor gets the 1st CLEV hit off NYY's Cole ... a long double off the left center field wall.

==== not so much with Franmil Reyes ... strikeout.

AJ Cassavell
Lamet and Clevinger are both still options for the Wild Card Series roster, Jayce Tingler says. That decision will come down to the wire. Rosters must be submitted by 8a tomorrow morning.
=============

Paddack fared well in his two starts against the Cardinals last year, surrendering two runs (one earned) with 12 strikeouts and five walks across 9 2/3 innings.

Let’s hope tomorrow’s game is similar to today’s Yankees game.

Get the lead in the 1st inning and just keep extending it throughout.

I don’t think my heart can handle a pitchers duel in game 1.

Paddack needs to have a game like he did the game before his last one.  In that one, he was good vertically particularly keeping the ball down and getting many ground balls.  In his last game, he was more horizontal and left several hangers that they hit for HRs.  Also, no walks!

I'm thinking that this is sort of a bullpen game and we just need Paddack to keep it close for 3 innings or so.    Then we can go with Strahm/Morejon and then Richards that will hopefully take us to the high leverage guys, Pomeranz and Rosenthal.   Offense has to come through any way it can, playing small ball if necessary, to get us a couple of runs on the board.  I think that if we can get to 4 runs, we can win the game.  Kim will be tough - exactly the kind of pitcher we've had trouble hitting all year.  Curious to see what that line-up is going to be.  Go Padres!  Beat St. Louis!
