2020 In Season Trade ideas
Quote from 3fingersplit on August 31, 2020, 9:28 amThe one player that has gained a spot in the pitching staff is Javy Guerra. He is getting better and throwing triple digit. He made Munoz and Reyes expendable....Munoz was a pitcher ( Surgery......no guarantee ) Reyes was a thrower. Preller gave up #7, #9, #11 in the farm system plus Hedges and Naylor.......will Naylor even make the big club ?........will Hedges start or be a back up ?
I guess at this point it doesn't matter and not our problem. Good job by AJ to use his resources to build this team.

And maybe lost in all the excitement is how important today's game is. If we win we are up on Colorado by 4, if we lose, only by 2 games.
Go Padres!
We know Rosenthal is there.
Moreland was next and coming from Boston but was notified early with enough time to make tonight's game.
Castro was playing in Anaheim and should be there for the game without issue
Nola, Altavilla were playing in Anaheim too so same as Castro (Adams probably just heading to the alt. site)
Not an issue with Clevinger .. not going to use him today but Allen is a toss up if notified this morning. Cleveland was in StL and schedule to go to KC today ... not a long flight to Denver so should make it for first pitch.
With Hedges and Torrens gone ... maybe charter to get Nola and Castro in Denver ... talk with Rothchild on pitching game plan ... get a uni that fits ... and introduce themselves to Richards. Whew.
Good new is the off day tomorrow to get everyone settled and then Wednesday is in Anaheim so just a short drive from SD.

No ... fast test with a negative gets them activated ASAP. Note Rosenthal was active the next day after the deal and warming in the pen.

Quote from WindsorUK on August 31, 2020, 9:52 amWho's going to catch tonight?
Castro? Nola?
We've traded ALL our C's plus their back up in France.
Can Cronenworth catch?

Preller has also done a good job of navigating a structure for a workable winter Rule 5 roster given the FA to be and an every decreasing number of minor league players to protect (Arias, Marcano, Lawson, ????)
More important he only added a minimal amount of 2020 payroll and even if they exercised the Moreland option ... only a +$3MM.
As it stands, FA to be: Castro, Profar, Richards, Yates, and Rosenthal. Then put Almonte on as a DFA. 6 potential open slots to cover the return of Adams, Espinosa, and Wingenter plus at least 3 Rule 5 protected prospects.
A number of other “low hanging fruit” if they want to sign a FA or two or like another prospect to protect.
A big trade for a SP should use multiple roster pieces for one .... so even greater flexibility.
Well done on multiple fronts.
well, now even more flexibility for this winter with Arias not needing to be added to the 40 man.
getting to the point not sure who has to be added for Rule5 (Marcano, Lawson, then is there anyone critical?)
With all the FA to be ... going to be room to add the 45 day IL players and cover the Rule 5 and sign a FA or two. Plus some players that are really non-factors going forward are easy deletes. e.g. Altavilla, Lucchesi, Almonte.

Quote from Randy Manese on August 31, 2020, 9:56 amPadres still have trading chips in Mejia and Lucchesi and possibly some others but doubt any trade will involve the top prospects that haven't moved so far. I don't like Gallo, but Starling Marte would be nice! We can dream, can't we!

Wow
And still with Gore - Patino - Morejon in reserve if an injury (and to replace Richards next year).

Quote from fenn68 on August 31, 2020, 10:06 amI does look as though Preller has put the firm NO on dealing Gore - Patino - Abrams - Campusano (I agree) and now with all the other moves propelling them to even a better team for the playoffs ... less likely he is motivated to move them.
If Hader (or Lynn) are still in his sights ... both will cost and Hader likely more but
Morejon and Baez are still highly rated prospects ... ML ready. Marcano is a Padre Top 10. Mejia still has value as a catcher in a catcher starved world. Decent base for a deal.
Lucchesi is more filler than a key piece in any deal but maybe in the same vein Padres are building an excess of RP (always in demand) that might appeal (as much as I see the Guerra upside .. not helping in 2020 ... so if help get a key return he gets included).
