Quote from WindsorUK on August 31, 2020, 12:46 amIf they brought Nola here AFTER they trade for Castro( now hopefully rescinded) it's gotta be to start and get the bulk of the innings behind the dish.
Hedges will be used at the end of the game to keep Nola fresh, and maybe a spot start during the week.
Austin has had ample opportunity to sort his approach out as a hitter. His inability to do so has led to this. This should be the last season of Hedges in a Padre uniform.

Nola and Adams are going to have to be very very good, in my opinion to come out ahead or just even on this one. Nola can and will replace France and Torrens, but Adams and Altavilla worth Trammell and Munoz? I'm giving this one to Seattle.
I felt this way at first too. The first trade this deadline I wasn't instantly behind. But now I am. Adams is the key. He's on the verge of returning, and put up some elite #'s in 2019. If he does come back we've got 4 guys with Closing experience 6th-9th innings, plus who knows, maybe even Yates back late Sept/early Oct? Plus Jose Castillo rehabbing too.
Love the idea of Nola "bridging" to Campusano for at least this season + 2 more since he's cheap; makes his age more irrelevant. Of course does open up possible trade of Campusano and/or Mejia right now too. Think Hedges stays as the fountain of knowledge of our P's & NL in general.
Altavilla could be immediately flipped. Otherwise he's probably got about 4 days with the team until we need the 5th SP.

Quote from Brian Connelly on August 31, 2020, 2:07 amMy brain hurts. And so tired. But have to throw these random thoughts out before Preller pulls off yet another deal...
- We have too many RP's on roster. Something feels like it has to give there, maybe as part of a larger deal.
- Re: Lance Lynn. The Morejon "injured/Covid list" timing sure feels suspicious... although Texas wouldn't care in the short term about availability like we would. I really feel like with Lynn, the Pads are in the drivers' seat; only team that can beat us really is us. The offer that keeps popping into my head for Lynn is: Morejon & Guerra. I just don't see how they could turn that down. I REALLY like the massive inning eating he does, particularly for next season, when that is going to be a big issue for most teams with their prospects (i.e. us!) being challenged to go 100 IP, let alone 200. The value of his 175-200 IP every year will be very high in 21.
- Re: Clevenger. I know the sample is very small. But combined with the fact that Lynn is NOT perceived as a jerk, and Lynn is better statistically in every category this year, AND their career #'s are not THAT different, AND Lynn will be less costly to obtain b/c 1+ year control vs 2+... I would rather have Lynn. VERY worried about the disruption to clubhouse chemistry in this short weird season if we get Clevinger, even though we've got some good clubhouse vets. Also think we have less "control" of this deal; depends more on exactly what Cleveland is looking for.
- IF Pads do pull off a deal for a SP, I would love to see them turn around & package Lucchesi with Stammen. We could eat rest of Stammen's $ this year. "Not my $", so I'd prefer we eat some of '21 too for a better prospect to backfill all our trades out, but also clear a spot in pen & save some $. If we DON'T add a SP, I would hold off until the offseason. I don't think Stammen is tradeable on his own.
- Most available prospects for a "big" deal: Abrams (I know, I know... but he's 2022?), Campusano (but really don't want to), Morejon, Arias, Guerra. NO: Gore, Patino, & I'd really try to keep Weathers.
We'll see where we stand in 12 hours or so...

It’s lot better if you just look at it as he’s a Catcher who can hit who is versatile enough to play elsewhere.

Quote from WindsorUK on August 31, 2020, 3:57 amWould Pham be in a trade for a frontline pitcher?
I'm seeing he, Hedges, Stammen, Lucchesi, Mejia, Guerra, Naylor as most likely to be shipped off the MLB roster in exchange for a Lynn or Clevinger.

Nola getting the bulk of the work with Castro filling in as needed?

Quote from WindsorUK on August 31, 2020, 4:27 amWhy in the world would we be interested in Joey Gallo? Average 200+ strike outs past 2 full seasons, BA of .210
Didn't we trade away Hunter Renfroe for those reasons? And I can't imagine Gallo is a Gold Glove caliber defender like Renfroe.

Gore? Patino? Abrams? Campusano?
Not sure I'd part with any of those kids - too much value in position of need.
