2020 In Season Trade ideas

PreviousPage 30 of 43Next

We now have a Catcher who can hit for five more years.

He now gives us our 6th hitter with a .900+ OPS.

He hit last year too and also in AAA so appears to just be a late bloomer.

Adams is the real deal and will help us this year....Muñoz wouldn’t.

Trammell is still an unknown...hasn’t really hit in AA and still hasn’t seen AAA or MLB.

We win this deal even if Trammell becomes............Trent Grisham!

😉

BTW.....all of this has also opens up 40 man spots for a few we need to protect after this season.

I will trust AJ on these trades. I don't count 2015 because ownership was pushing for a big splash. Plus I don't think AJ thought much of the prospects since they weren't his. Only one that stings is Fried, and Turner is pretty good but will take Tatis over Turner.

So......is the trade for Castro still on?

We didnt get both Nola and Moreland to platoon at DH did we?

I dont think you can get rid of Hedges this season due to his familiarity of the pitching staff, right?

Nola being flipped to bring in something different?? If so, leaves RHH DH kinda light doesnt it?

I would guess Nola Catches about 40 % then spells Hosmer against the tough Leftys and RH DH with Moreland being LH DH

Well 17 hours for this to fully play out.

5 years of control of Nola is good but he is already 30 so? 4 years of control of Adams is good but he is already 29 so? Just guessing but would not be surprised Altavilla hits the waiver wire soon ... think he is out of options and just not that good.

No idea on the Castro situation but doubt they paid all that for Nola to be a third string catcher, back-up 1B/2B/3B/DH ... he has to start (split catcher duties with him as the lead). Unless he is flipped.

I guess Mejia stock has really dropped (or is being package in the SP deal). Setting up Nola / Hedges bridging to Nola / Campusano since Hedges has only 2 more control years (I think).

Think, for now, still at 40 ... added Nola and Altavilla with Adams still on the 45 day IL. Moved Torrens and France off the 40 man and Munoz was on the 45 day IL. Trammell was not roster (needed to be added in the winter). So, IF Adams is near ready to return ... DFA of Altavilla makes room. Plus it does help the Rule 5 40 man construction this winter.

But that is 'for now" ... we will see when (if) the big deal for a SP comes down the next steps. Plus still wondering about Reyes for Castro.

That should be interesting too. Tingler before this deal said he planned to use Moreland against RHP and LHP (for the most part) ... play 1B to get Hosmer time at DH for a rest. Moreland is a decent 1B.

Key may be Nola's defense as a C ... if decent he may get the 60% starts and fill DH/1B as needed vs LHP.

Then if Castro shows up ... who goes? Running out of candidates if you want coverage of all the positions with reserves.

Well Nola has this going for him in 2020:

  1. he is only one of 6 "qualified" catchers ... ranking #1 with a 1.2 WAR tied with a guy name Realmuto.
  2. expanding that to the 30 catchers with at least 60 PA:
    1. Nola and Realmuto are still at #1
    2. Defense has Nola at #12 (Hedges at #14)
    3. wRC+ has Nola at #2 at 145 (Hedges at #21 at 70)

I guess we never see Nola but he clearly has some skills that place him up the rankings making the case both offensively and defensively to get the bulk of the catching.

I'll admit, the idea of adding Nola and Moreland to the lineup makes it amazing 1-9 considering

  1. Grisham
  2. Tatis
  3. Machado
  4. Hosmer
  5. Moreland (.328/.430/.746)
  6. Myers
  7. Cronenworth (will be leading the league in BA by Tuesday)
  8. Pham (assuming hes back in a few weeks)
  9. Nola (.306/.373/.531)

Dang that is a great 1-9.  And I understand the want to add another starter.  But the Padres also have four top 100 prospects who are MLB ready (Patino/Gore/Morejon/Baez) why not actually let one of them throw 5-6 innings at a time.

you have Grisham twice and omitted Hosmer which can't happen as he is swinging a good stick this year. I'm guessing in the 4 hole
