2020 In Season Trade ideas
Quote from MrPadre19 on August 30, 2020, 9:12 amI’m guessing the fact that Potts and Rosario both need to be put on 40 man next season are the factors here.
Potts still has tremendous power potential and was young for AA and Rosario has tremendous plate discipline and gets on base at a high rate.
But.....they are still 2 years away from San Diego at minimum....We need those roster spots for players who can contribute next season.
A VERY good get by the Red Sox.
I hope Preller earned some “credit” from Bloom for the next deal!

Quote from Randy Manese on August 30, 2020, 9:29 amExactly! Both these prospects have potential but also have flaws and have been by passed by other more complete players or by circumstances, such as Machado's signing. Moreland comes with a team option for 2021 should the NL continue the DH. We really needed a better LH DH than Garcia. Moreland was probably the best left-handed bat available just like Rosenthal was probably the best RP available. Potentially, a good deal for both sides which is what a trade should be. Good luck to J Rosario and Hudson Potts!

Quote from fenn68 on August 30, 2020, 9:50 amExcellent on Moreland!
Rosario and Potts had little future with the Padres. Grisham seems to have locked in CF with Trammel in line if need and then soon maybe Abrams given Tatis / Cronenworth got middle INF down and Rosario is basically a singles hitter so not a corner OF fit. Pott covered by everyone in the INF for years ... so not real place to go.
Moreland’s option is for only $3MM ... easy to pick-up for that LH bat.

Quote from fenn68 on August 30, 2020, 9:58 amSo the plot thickens as the deadline looms!
If nothing, Naylor could be sent down but that leaves only 1 real reserve OF in Mateo. Naylor may be poor in the OF but at least he knows where LF is. So an oddly different concern. Nothing except Almonte (maybe Trammell) at the alternate site in an emergency. Not really interested seeing France or Moreland in LF.
Could a LF be another target? Maybe a RHH?
====
Could this be a pre-cursor to a deal for someone that includes the departure of Naylor? Hosmer - Moreland - France pretty much cover 1B for a long time and France - Moreland look to cover DH through 2021 (if there is a DH in the NL).

Interesting next 28 hours.

Quote from MrPadre19 on August 30, 2020, 10:01 amYes Naylor now really has no position at least for this season and next.
LF will be Mateo/Profar as far as I can tell unless there indeed is a trade.

Quote from fenn68 on August 30, 2020, 10:30 amSo far Preller has procured the top closer and an veteran impact LHH for fringe prospects with limited Padre futures ... cleared some Rule 5 roster issues for this winter ... opened more space for the winter with Rosenthal a FA and the ability to not pick up Moreland's option. Even if they pick up Moreland's option ... only a $3MM hit. I guess, if Naylor (or one of the RP) is in demand now ... makes a deal with them more feasible.
Pretty good dealing with adding for a playoff run and at the same time improving the future roster issue without a major cost hit.

Yes, but a bit of a long shot since the surgery was on Aug 17th and most suggest a 4-6 week recovery. Even if he was near the short end ... that is right about the end of the season.
Will he have time to fully heal and get some reps at the alternate site to justify adding him and removing someone else from the active roster ... basically someone that got them to the playoffs?

Quote from fenn68 on August 30, 2020, 11:07 amJayce Tingler, who knows Mitch Moreland well from their time in Texas, said he expects Moreland to be in the lineup most days against both righties and lefties.===========I guess that means France is the utility sub at DH/1B/3B ... can't see him in LF.Trade chip?
