2020 In Season Trade ideas

Industry people expect at least one more trade, by the way.

Lynn?  Bundy?  Gausman?  Givens?  Don't see Clevinger, Bauer or Hader coming our way.  An OF?

Looking more like that top line SP may happen.

Padres in on both Lynn and Clevinger (who now most seem to think will get dealt).

Reports suggest that the Padres, CWS, LAD, and NYY are in on Clevinger .. think ATL is out with there recent deal. Price: As recently as Friday, it seemed unlikely Clevinger would go anywhere, with Cleveland apparently setting an extremely high price tag on him. The price tag seemingly remains high. Heyman hears that Cleveland would want big league talent in return (Twitter link), while Robert Murray reports that the initial ask was “four quality prospects.”

That covers all the bases .... but an elite pitcher with 2 more years of control (vs. Lynn's one). Now what CLEV considers "big league talent" and "four quality prospects" is anyone's guess since few agree on those evaluations and projections. Keep in mind that Preller worked the Trammell deal with CLEV last year ... so a working relationship is there, especially since they netted Franmil Reyes. Here is where I could see a home for Mejia but probably not Naylor or France. With the Lindor clearly moving on this winter ... Arias? They need OF ... Trammell? Everyone needs pitching at some point ... Morejon?

Personally not in love with the baggage he brings ... sort of Clevinger first as I recall even before the recent COVID issue. However, if he is effective in taking the CWS or the NYY out of the bidding for Lynn ... so much the better.

Given that requested level of return for Clevinger from CLEV ... Lynn should be significantly less for half the control years.

Just another thought on Moreland.  He is a professional hitter but not a .320 hitter, more likely .260 - .270 with an OPS in the 770 range, so expectations should not be sky high.  On the other hand, doing very well this year and a lot of veteran experience having performed under pressure and that is something we don' t have a lot of on this team.  Heard he has a good team presence so will fit nicely in our dugout.  Looking forward to having him contribute down the stretch and in the playoffs (and maybe even next year).

I think the SP is more the target ... and go high with Lynn since he does have a past with Tingler / Schumaker and that should make it more comfortable with a know personality ... besides being good.

Clevinger and Bauer I can live without their personalities being added to the cohesive team. Not sure, even though pitching well this year, I would be comfortable with either Bundy or Gausman given their spotty past performances.

Now Givens or Hader (who would cost a ton) ... only make sense if the Padres can't get that upper rotation starter (1-2) and have to rely on what they have ... then a mega bullpen may carry them in the playoffs.

Playoffs do tend to be bullpen critical but not sure a Lamet - Davies at #1-2 can cover the current under performances of Paddack and Richards even with an elite pen. Normally only need 4 starters max in the playoffs.

Fenn, I think you have all the right names out there for Clevinger, although don't think Mejia will be part of the deal.  Arias, Naylor, Morejon and Trammell may be the current asking price.  That's a lot to give up or is it?  Likely cost is much less with Lynn and Lynn might fit better in our clubhouse than Clevinger.  Hold onto your seats!

Agree ... but still an upgrade over Naylor and his veteran playoff experience should allow him to perform to his history better than Naylor.

Cross off Givens - to Rockies.

Agree would prefer Lynn as a clubhouse fit ... still a quality top of the rotation arm .. should cost less ... and is gone after 1 more year making room for Gore, Patino, et. al. Plus Clevinger in his last arbitration year will be a hefty salary.

Jason Castro?

C from Anaheim?
