2019 MLB DRAFT
Quote from Cptjack on June 25, 2019, 2:08 amNope, but I believe I've seen it tallied as 200k into overage if Fellows signs at slot.

Quote from fenn68 on June 25, 2019, 6:14 amBased on Fellows' performance yesterday in the CWS ... not building a case to sign even at slot. If Vandy loses today, we should see Fellows' signing this week.

Padres are already over their pool amount by 225 K.... but can go 5% above the pool, so:
By my math, assuming Fellows signs and at his slot, they've got a little over 300K of "penalty $" left to sign any 11th round+ guys.

That is on top of the $125K slotted for any pick 11 and beyond. So maybe one $425K sign or two $275K signs or three $225K signs .. some a bit more and some a bit less but a fair chance of some late signings. If Fellows comes in a bit under slot then a bit more to play with.
Has to be a difficult job for the front office trying to access who is just not going to sign or sign for the Padre offer while keeping some hanging on while they focus on the one or two that they have as their highest priority ... but can't quite lock down the the money. How long do you wait your top priority to agree to your top offer (knowing that as time passes demands often drop) vs. passing on him and going next on the priority list before they lock into not signing and going to college?

Quote from fenn68 on June 25, 2019, 9:14 amSounds as though (as of the 21st) negotiations are still ongoing (if they have begun):
From the McNeese State beat reporter.
Jun 21MoreI just got off the phone with @McNeeseBaseball-signee @jared_lopez11 for a story that will run early next week. He was drafted by the @Padres a few weeks ago. As of now, he's planning to enroll at McNeese. But he said that could change depending on what San Diego offers for $

Let's leave Fellows alone and sign 3-4 of the others.....:)
Signing Fellow (unless over slot) does not impact the potential other signings .... don't sign Fellows and lose his slot money from the pool and (not sure on this) the allowed over slot for only a cash penalty should be lowered. Better to sign him under slot and have more to play with.

Quote from fenn68 on June 25, 2019, 11:39 amWas reading an article on Feole (#11) ... sounds like a very interesting (in a good way) individual with a lot of interests outside of baseball. Based on my read, could see him just passing up baseball and returning to college to complete his education and set up his future. He may be OK if not selected next draft (or not in a better slot) to achieve his other objectives. Money may be less of an issue in his case.
Might be why a college JR ranked #163 slides to the 11th round. Padres may like him enough to gamble that they could reach an agreement. IF the money is not the main issue ... maybe signing him and allowing him to go back to college to complete his Senior year academically then start his baseball career next summer. On the other hand, he has not signed, so ????

Right.....I knew that.
Was just anxious for a way to get Carver.
