Who will replace Melvin next year ?

Appears as if Manager vacancies are being filled. How close are we to filling ours?

I'd really, really like to have a Manager in place before Preller starts making whatever player moves he's going to make. If for no other reason than to at least give the illusion that we have a cohesive brain trust when it comes to the make-up of the 2024 Padres.

Is Schildt still the front runner in most peoples eyes?

Does anyone outside the organization have a chance?

David Ross seems popular at the moment. As much as I was a fan of Nevin's while he was here, he comes across as being fairly miserable. Not sure I want that in a Manager?

Doubt the selection of a manager will have any impact on Preller’s off-season moves. First, of the ones interviewed, all the potential player movement / evaluations were probably part of the interview process … at least to the level that interested Preller.

There still could be a debate in the front office about who is selected … in this round expect Preller has to get buy-in from the Business side and whomever is representing Siedler Equity Partners while Siedler is on the sideline.

Also, using underhanded thinking, Preller may want both Shildt and Flaherty to remain BUT if he selects one would the other bolt to another organization … recent rumor is that MILW is interested in Shildt. The longer Preller keeps both dangling … the other opportunities close.

Of course, my choice is whomever is the cheapest on the shortest contract so he will be easier to fire after 2025. Pure speculation that any of the candidates are materially better than the others … so why care.

So Acee says Nevin and Shildt are now the favorites. He doesn't think Gil is in the running. However, Gil apparently posted a picture of him golfing with Greupner with a LFGSD caption on his Instagram. Given that Gil has been working with Nevin the past few years I wonder if it'll be Nevin with Gil joining his staff.

Edit- Guess it wasn't Greupner. Just a guy that sort of looked like him.

Should we expect the Manager announcement on Monday? Good chance the decision has been made (and maybe the principles told) and the hold up is in respect to Seidler.

The new manager needs some time to work on the few coaches he may want to add (unless it is all internal). If it is Shildt or Flaherty, will not need any time to get up to speed on the current roster … maybe some time getting comfortable with a new set of responsibilities and Preller … probably different as a manger v coach.

Is there still a “mystery candidate”?

I guess not today … tomorrow???? Hard to see Wednesday a day before Thanksgiving went the media coverage would be low as people head out (that could apply to the entire weekend).

Next Monday????? No idea the delay past today.

Looks like it's Shildt. I wonder if any of the other guys will join his staff.

Per my nature I will find fault in whomever they selected … sort of a national pastime. So, with Shildt, somewhat concerned about how he departed ST (after being a winning manager) and the fact that no one really tried to hire him over the past three years … there have been openings and interviews across MLB.

On the other hand, since he has been working as an advisor to Preller for three years … hopefully no surprise on either side as to the working relationship between the two going forward. We should see the Preller way (whatever that really is).

The real question … can he handle Machado?

2 Year deal ... press conference at 1 PM.

As long as Flaherty stays as bench coach, Machado should be OK, you would think.

Until Shildt (if he does) tell Manny to do something Manny does not want to do ... like go on IL when he is injured and not helping the club or just take a couple of days off if slumping.
