Trevor Bauer
Quote from Notmyopic on October 3, 2023, 2:46 pmQuote from fenn68 on October 3, 2023, 1:30 pmI read some of the reports ... really nothing new from the time the police / DA decided not to press charges. Most of us knew the character / history of the woman. This just stops the litigation for civil damages.
However, if you followed Bauer all the way back to UCLA ... he has always been a jerk (both on and off the field) so don't let him off the hook because he was not guilty of the worst of the actions.
Don't want this guy anywhere around the Padres let alone in the clubhouse ... pretty sure most MLB teams feel the same way.
You serious there wasn’t anything new? The woman literally was texting her friends she was setting him up to get his money before they ever hung out. She literally faked her injuries to incriminate him. We have all that proof now. This is ground shaking new news.

Yep ... that was out there some time ago ... not well publicized but it was out as part of the criminal investigation. The texts were known ... a big reason why criminal actions were not taken. Of course that did not stop civil litigation which has a different standard and maybe a chance for a financial win (or settlement).
Maybe new info for some fans ... but sure all MLB teams knew as did the HQ since they were keeping very close tabs on this. Remember once he was criminally cleared his pay was reinstated and could have returned to MLB ... just no team wanted this jerk. LAD paid him $22.3MM for 2023 ... he only lost money during the MLB suspension period.

If you knew this and still thought his career should be ended over it, that’s not a good thing. You just don’t have someone intentionally try to frame him to the point of causing herself bodily harm and still think his career should be over because he isn’t a great guy.

My point was not that his career should be over (or that he was not shafted in this case) ... it was that this is not new info ... what MLB teams do is what is best for MLB teams ... they appear to have made their call.

This was info that wasn’t even allowed at his trial, I have my doubts that it’s been out but even if it has, teams haven’t made their choice. The MLB crucified the man without reason and the teams are doing as they are told. Same with the punter from SDSU in the NFL.

Quote from Jeremy Hill on October 3, 2023, 6:00 pmThe girl certainly seems to have some issues. She's a recovering alcoholic and seems to have a history of chasing after ballplayers. She was reportedly on the Pad Squad and claims to have been fired after she hooked up with Tatis and Clevinger. Now it looks like she had some kind of relationship with Nix as well. I still wouldn't be so quick to exonerate Bauer.
There's a lot of stuff that came out during all of this that people seem to be overlooking or forgetting. There were 3 other accusers at least 2 of whom testified and provided evidence during the league's investigation. The league gathered enough evidence to make the initial suspension. The independent arbitrator who reviewed the ruling also saw enough to uphold the suspension even though they reduced it. All of the stories seem to be the same. They agreed to rough consensual sex and Bauer took it way beyond the level that they were expecting. Bauer admitted to having sex with at least 2 of them. He also admitted to hitting the girl that he just released the video about on a recorded phone call she made at the suggestion of the police. His defense seemed to be that he didn't realize he was doing that much damage, but he also seemed to admit that he knew she lost consciousness. The pictures of her face were pretty disturbing and despite people claiming they were faked I haven't seen any actual evidence to prove that to be true.
The video he released makes her look bad. There are also already reports out that he lied about or misrepresented what the judge had said or ruled in the video. The video of her in his bed that he said she tried to hide had also at the very least been given to police at the beginning of the investigation. Presenting it the way he did allows him to use his platform to control the narrative. He says the texts prove she was out to extort him. She says they were dumb jokes between friends. The context changes drastically depending on which side you believe. People seem to want to fully condemn or fully exonerate Bauer. I think there's probably more nuance to it than that. A ton of information has come out throughout the process and I'm sure even more will continue to trickle out now. In the age we live in I think we all tend to rush to judgment one way or another. I think the truth is usually more complicated than our snap decisions.

There are also reportedly texts and pictures she sent to a cousin shortly after that video was taken showing the injuries. The examining nurse also reportedly testified on her behalf.
The girl seems like an absolute disaster. I have my doubts about a lot of what she has claimed happened. I saw that she did an interview after Bauer put out his video and it was a shit show. She said she took the video about 4 hours after the encounter to send to someone who knew she was with Bauer and checked in on her. She said she was embarrassed and wanted to make it look like everything was good in the moment. She also said the bruises hadn't shown up yet and suggested that poor lighting and the fact that she used Snapchat to take the video hid some of the damage. I don't really buy it and she doesn't come across as someone who was a victim of something as horrific as she claimed. I also feel like what we expect and what we get from the alleged victim are often very different in these types of cases. Their behavior and explanations don't always make rational sense from the outside looking in.
The one big hangup I have with this is the recorded phone call with Bauer. He admits to hitting her which lends some credibility to her story. The question for me then becomes if not Bauer where did her injuries come from? Why would she take that video if she was planning an elaborate sexual assault based extortion scheme? I don't think Bauer is the monster she made him out to be. I'm not convinced he's fully innocent either.
The other problem I have is with the people saying he got railroaded by the league. There was a 9 month investigation involving 20+ witnesses including other alleged victims. The suspension was reduced, but upheld by the independent arbitrator. He still has an active lawsuit and countersuit with one of the other alleged victims. It wasn't just this girl's story the league was investigating, but a lot of people seem to be looking to fully exonerate him based on her story looking unreliable. I think it's fair to say we should try to stop making snap judgements in these cases and let the process play out. I also think a lot of people have now made a snap decision to exonerate him while the process is still playing out.
