In the Angels' eventual loss to the Rangers, Albert Pujols executed a rare stolen base attempt and was successful. Although he doesn't go for it often, he has not been caught stealing since 2015. Here's a look at best stolen base rate since 2016 among players with at least 10 attempts in that time.

Quote from Randy Manese on May 16, 2022, 7:52 amWay too passive at the plate. Envisions himself as a leadoff hitter who must see a lot of pitches, however, in doing that seems to almost always let a first pitch fastball get by for a called strike and then further gets into a pitcher's count by fouling off the next one or two balls. Other teams know his pattern and take advantage of it. That is why Melvin has "temporarily" removed him from the leadoff spot, trying to force him to be more aggressive early in the count. He likes the OBP stat but that takes away from the SA and BA; when he is aggressive, like that one stretch last year before he got hurt again, he is much more of a contributor to the offense.
The same thing happened to Hassell recently at Ft. Wayne. Started taking way too many pitches and as a result dropped over 50 points in BA and had a rising K rate. Seems to have started correcting it in the last couple of games but Hassell actually has a much better eye and barrel ability than Grisham and can afford to be more selective - just not too selective. Ft. Wayne team was in a hitting slump so maybe he was pressing a bit but still young and developing - our best pure hitter in the minors.

Quote from MrPadre19 on May 16, 2022, 6:01 pmGrish isn’t the only one doing this.
Drives me crazy.
In 20’ the whole team did a great job working the count and seeing a lot of pitches.
I like the strategy…..but man, sometimes you gotta be looking 1st pitch fastball cause pitchers throw it a lot.
Work the count sure….but nail that first pitch if it’s exactly what you’re looking for.

Quote from fenn68 on May 25, 2022, 10:47 amTrent Grisham's performance has to be altering Preller's priorities for the trade deadline / winter moves. His "slump" is building to his "norm". Consider:
2022 (138 AB): 152/255/246
2021 (228 AB -post All-Star break): 211/296/333
Going from a poor post All-Star 2021 performance to a worse start in 2022. A contender can't live with that.
Don't have an immediate upgrade ... Azocar might be serviceable but will not be the answer ... Abrams is not hitting in AAA ... Ruiz is only in AA (but might be the gamble) ... so, maybe when Tatis returns they could gamble on some position shifts (e.g. Profar to CF?).

Quote from Henry Silvestre on May 25, 2022, 12:06 pmI'll take Ruiz roaming CF right about now.. not much more to prove at AA and AAA is no longer where prospects develop is more of a journeyman depth spot with a couple specs sprinkles in...AA for the most part is the highest level of development with most organizations.. So why not Ruiz..guve him a 4 week trial by fire.. and see what we got...
We also sign Shogo to minor deal... at AAA and doing alright...
In the offseason ..Nimmo (Mets) is the only legit CF stud (#10FA overall)
