We've made it this far on the back of our starter depth. Every other section of the team has flaked. I am loathe to take away from what got us to this point. The good thing about Snell is that his numbers can only go up from here and has a track record of doing just that. Not to mention he is the freshest on the staff. I think trading Snell is shooting ourselves in the foot. Skubal is a good SP but we have no way of knowing how he will handle the playoff race pressure.

The wait to the end mentality seems to be playing out across MLB with only two bigger trade targets moving so far … Benintendi (rental for peanuts) and Castillo (1+ years for a strong package). Sure a few “filler” moves but not game changing.

Getting close to FOMO from some of the GM … needing (not just wanting) to upgrade but in competition for their targets. Time for them to up their offers today or shift to option two … danger of waiting to tomorrow and getting nothing. Good to be the seller.

With SD, STL, and PHIL neck and neck for the last two Wild Card slots … probably three GM having to make moves under pressure. STL may be the pivot team … in on Soto with SD and in SP (likely Montas) with PHIL … not likely to get both. However, neither WASH nor OAK has to deal their guys now … so they drag it out. Then hard to gauge other bidders for Soto and Montas or teams going for “lesser” alternatives and when.

Still think the LAD are deep into Soto (they have the assets to top SD/STL if they choose) and will be in a good spot to extend him this winter with a major payroll drop. That would probably send STL heavy into Montas … so they still come out OK. Preller then is looking (quickly) to close on his back-up plan. I would be stressed out if my job was to play this game.

We improve BP.. We improve SLG and we improve 1B/DH ...

Improving OF..way i look at it Profar in LF.. weakness at CF and RF.. TATIS covers either... so ONE OF add a must. 2 better ..

Improving C.. more of a post addressing BP/OF move than a true need

SP depth.. more with can I get someone controlled beyond 22 at a reasonable cost vs a must need

AJP gets TODAY done...Tomorrow becomes more "Gravy on Top" vs absolute chaos bummer type day

 

PS I don't see at least one of Hosmer/Myers/Voit surviving this deadline
