The San Diego #Padres are getting close to landing Juan Soto from the Washington #Nationals. The deal is not yet finalized.

There is strong momentum for a Juan Soto to #Padres deal. They are not at finish line yet but are getting close according to sources involved in the negotiations. However, as we learned last year with the Scherzer/Turner trade things can change in a heart beat. Patience.

Respectfully disagree. How many prospects truly pan out? How many times have we been on here counting our prospect eggs before they hatch, and think we have a team of home grown all stars?

If Hosmer is included in the trade, and Myers done after the season, should be able to make a serious effort to resign Bell, and Soto IS what we are hoping Wood will be.

This is SDs window, with a healthy Tatis, Soto, Machado, Crone in the line up, with our rotation and pen, we can beat LA in the playoffs. And we have already handled NYM and ATL this season.

Go for it, do it!!

Unfortunately, none of our prospects EVER pan out for us....because we usually trade them.

And it looks like the Cardinals are balking because they don't want to include all their good young players for essentially 1 guy.

Don't get me wrong, I think Soto is AWESOME. But I just think, at some point, through sheer bloody luck( God knows it's not talent evaluation!) at least one of these kids will be good.....and we won't have to spend a quarter of our entire payroll on him.

Build a solid foundation through your own system ( see Duds, Astros, Yankees, Cards) and add pieces as necessary. THAT is how you stay competitive year in year out.

I guess winning in 2022 is the first priority but not as confident on being able to sign back all the pieces unless they blow past the CBT in 2023.

Rogers was basically a net zero and is replaced by Hader who in arbitration should get around $15MM. Profar at about $7MM AAV will opt out and to re-sign (or add an equivalent) will be over $10MM. Clevinger and Manaea will be FA … Morejon traded and Gore maybe not healthy … will need two adds as SP. Cronenworth … 2X All-Star will get a major boost in arbitration. They have already consumed a +$12MM for Musgrove. Saving money on Myers / Hosmer can only be used once.

However, have to go all in on re-signing Bell / Profar with nothing left in the system to replace them near term. It is only money!

Seems clear to me that Abrams and Hassell are covered with our current setup and Soto addition. Wood would hurt, but hes still two years away? Merrill would be nice to have in the system to cover Rake when we can afford him, but Kim can also cover, and we still have a few years to line anything up.

The catch, to me, was always the young pitching. Keeping one of Gore or Morejon is vital. From the rumors, we will likely be able to hang onto Gore.

If there is a way to dump Hosmer in the deal, its turning into a no brainer. Ive been against adding Soto, as I think we have so many needs, but its hard to say no with the addition of Hader to lock down the 9th, possibly adding Bell.

Seems unlikely Hosmer is included, but that would be the cherry on top and seal the deal.

Why do I get the feeling this is 2015 all over again?

As I have stated before, IF we have to go to almost a full rebuild mode, but win the WS, I dont really care!

Because most of the time you are a pessimist.

And we have been Padre fans for to long!!

For the past two years, Soto has been a RF … so likely the drop in there … not the time to reacquaint him to LF. Profar has been gold glove quality in LF and has benefit from stability of position. Kim has been lights out defensively at SS … plus hitting is on the upswing.

For the best team … does that funnel Tatis into CF … no questions asked?
