Trades June/July/Deadline

PreviousPage 105 of 125Next

Negotiations are weird from a fans perspective. Could adding Bell into the deal get them a better return via a better prospect package from the Padres than trying to move him independently … since seems like there is very little traction on other teams being interested. Maybe not a lot more but more.

BLtimore keeps selling...CL Lopez to Twinkies

Who (and how) does Preller move to make 26 man roster room for Soto, Bell, and Finnigan … clearly the CBT is crushed. No prospects left to attached to bad contracts (Myers, Homser, Voit) unless one (or more) go to WASH to justify the high prospect price.

Best for the Padres would be Hosmer to WASH and just DFA Myers or Voit and eat the 2022 remaking salary. Bell is the everyday 1B/DH with either Myers / Voit as his partner. Keep in mind Bell will be a FA … so holding on Voit might be strategic pending a better 1B/DH option in the winter.

Who is dropped from the pen for Finnigan (cheap and long control) considering Suarez coming soon and Johnson / Pomeranz on the horizon. Morejon in the deal is the immediate offset.

Interesting move … sort of depends on the players returning but looks like BALT is selling high on a hot All-Star RP who at 29 is coming off a lackluster career in the ML.

I guess BALT may not have seen him sustaining in 2023. Not a money issue since he was a very low cost waiver claim.

Way I see it

Bell + Soto + Finnegan IN

Mazara (trade for a down the line spec)

Hosmer +$$ in deal

From Hector Gomez CBS

Hearing Morejon, Wood, Susana, Hassell III, Abrams & Merrill for Soto, Bell & Finnegan.

I do hope Preller says no to that....with Bell only being here another 3 months and Finnegan just a pen arm, that's 6 of our best prospects ( if not BEST!) for 1 guy. And 1 guy does not a team make.

Walk away AJ.

If the Soto deal happens, you could go with an OF of Tatis, Profar, and Soto, with Mazara and Azocar as back ups and late inning defense replacements.

Could you see SD make a move with Grisham and HOU. They are said to be looking for CF help. His bat and defense would play much better in the smaller home park in HOU, and maybe SD gets a decent prospect in return to help offset the treasure chest of prospects going to WAS.

Respectfully disagree. How many prospects truly pan out? How many times have we been on here counting our prospect eggs before they hatch, and think we have a team of home grown all stars?

If Hosmer is included in the trade, and Myers done after the season, should be able to make a serious effort to resign Bell, and Soto IS what we are hoping Wood will be.

This is SDs window, with a healthy Tatis, Soto, Machado, Crone in the line up, with our rotation and pen, we can beat LA in the playoffs. And we have already handled NYM and ATL this season.

Go for it, do it!!

Interestingly … in any of the trade speculation for any of the targets … we don’t hear Campusano mentioned (except on this site) as part of the package. He is a Top 100 prospect.

How about a Cronenworth for Bell deal? Who says no?
