Trade Possibilities

Urias-Naylor-Patino-J Lopez

I know there's speculation that Mejia will be included, but I just don't think Archer is as valuable to teams as fans think. Mejia is a near future elite player.  Archer is not. Neither is Urias despite having a bright future. The above is a great return for Tampa. Your proposal is an over pay.

Probably.

But I say hope because I don’t feel Quantrill is going to be a top of the roatation Starter....we have nowhere for Naylor and we just got Mejia for a couple Relievers and I’d be fine with Hedges/Allen as our 2 Catchers going forward.

I don’t really want to lose Urias due to his Mexican heritage and his bat on  ball skills.

This team lacks players who get on base.

I also think Patino will be a better Ml pitcher than Quantrill.

My offer may be an overpay but IMO it doesn’t hurt this teams future as much as yours does.

There really just isn't anything I'd give up for Archer. He's a fine #3 and might have another #2 type season in him, but he makes zero sense for us right now. If we'd taken a step forward this year and finished around .500, maybe I'd be more on board. But as we stand now, it would be infuriating to see us give up a bunch of future pieces for a 30 year old starter.

I'm not really sure how to accept this, either. I was able to cope with 2015 because of the excitement that came with it. The Galvis trade was - I thought - a blip on the radar. But if we go out and overpay for Archer, that'll destroy a lot of the faith I have in this team's ability to appropriately evaluate cost/benefit when it comes to trades.

Guh. I'm legitimately scared for the next few days.

The whole premise the front office has fed the fans is that they are going to build young and we have had to endure a brutal season so far with the idea that help is on the way

I see no compelling reason to give up Any of our top of the line prospects for a #3 pitcher.....develop the guys down below and hopefully the fruits of what AJ Preller is doing shows up on the mound and field sooner than later

To overpay for Archer is akin to the 13 million dollar boondoggle that was Headly and Mitchell and regardless what people think about "it's only 13 million and doesn't affect the future of this team "....Ron Fowler was not happy about throwing 13 million down the crapper.

If AJ Preller overpays for a pitcher that isn't a front end of the rotation and includes Mejia in a trade he would have given up Hand, Cimber, Mejia plus whoever else for Archer......his days will be numbered

DO NOT MAKE THAT TRADE......sometimes the best trade is the one you don't make

Archer has 5 times the value as Headley/Mitchell.

AJ is not afraid to trade for a player with value knowing full well he could trade them again if necessary.

I’m not saying this is a no brainer but if Preller trades for Archer I would  assume he would have a reason.

Archer will be 30 in September and has a ERA of 4.31.....those are Earned Runs...not bad defense Runs...102 hits in 96 innings

Why would the Padres give up any top tier minor league player for that ?

I get the whole under club control for 3 years....7.5 million next year then Club Options of 9 million in 2020 and 11 million in 2021 but not at the expense of guys that are very close to playing at Petco.....we have been waiting for that and to see them go to Tampa Bay and turn into solid major league players would be a big slap in the face to Padre fans and for what ?

DO NOT MAKE THAT DEAL

And that reason would be stupid.

Don't we have numerous pitchers in our system that will one day be quality starters here in San Diego? If so, why in the hell would they give up ANYBODY for a pitcher?

If you're going to be throwing prospects at anyone, it should be for the Manny Machado's of the world.

And the D'backs just got a decent 3rd baseman for their pennant run, something we desperately need.

So, in a nut shell: HELL NO to pitchers, YES PLEASE for hitters.

Do we?

I remember well the angst when we gutted the farm for Upton,Kimbrell,Kemp,And Norris.

Fried,Peterson,Peterson,Wisler,Paroubeck,Smith,Turner,Bauer’s...others I can’t even remember.

To this day Turner is the only one worth wanting back.

To this day those veterans(minus Norris) are still way more valuable than any of those top prospects.

How many of the prospects we got back for those guys have done anything at the ML level?

Margot is the best of them and is still just a below average major league player.
