IF (and that is a big IF) the Padres land Merrifield for 2B expect Profar to become the super utility guy a la Zobrist.

He is athletic enough (and has some experience) in all the INF and in the OF ... switch hitter with power off the bench.

Listened to a couple of folks with knowledge of his time in OAK .. and they absolutely love him as a person who will do whatever it takes to stay in the ML ... so well suited for the super utility role.

This is just a re-run of an Acee story from a while ago. The Padres already looked into Merrifield and found the price far too high. AJ was talking about the Padres future with Gore and Patino in it just yesterday. He wouldn’t be doing that if he was considering trading them. It would cost at least one of them to get Merrifield. AJ is past looking at him.

Another case where the selling team (KC) does not NEED to trade him since he is on one of the best team friendly contracts giving the 4 years of control. So "listen" and ask for the moon ... might get someone to bite and if not ... there is always next year.

Have to wonder if a Myers deal is becoming a legit possibility now.
