They will not be getting rid of Myers contract. Myers is staying. Arias is our starting 2B at the moment. We have 5-7 years of Patino to look forward to. Baez is already an effective reliever. We will not be losing all of that to get rid of 1 bad contract. That would be cutting off our nose to spite our face.

I get your point, and Myers could very well be stuck in SD because of his contract and lack of performance. However, when the guy who writes the checks, publicly states that he is willing to eat half of Myers contract to ship him out, he could be moved. Then, there was a chat on MLBTR today, we a "talking head" mentioned DET as a team that could be convinced to possibly take on all of Myers contract. To which point, Fenn pondered our thougts. Finally, in response to all this since my suggestion was too much for your taste, what was suggestion in trade for DET to take on all of the contract. So once again, what would you be willing to give up, if DET would take on all of Myers contract?

We cannot force a trade to Detroit. They have a 40 man roster crunch of their own. They will be losing good prospects this year as it is. They either need major league pieces who are better than what they have now or premium prospects. Detroit would be a horrible team to trade with. We just don't match up with our needs. So it will not happen.

Detroit already has 4-LF, 1-RF and 0-CF. Sound familiar? Their RF is a former Padres 2nd rd draft pick. Myers would just add another useless piece to a spot they already have to trim. What they are saying with the "willing to take Myers contract" comment is that they will do it if we make it worth their while. Naylor would be of definite interest to them, they need a 1B. Other than that they want pitching. They already tried a patchwork rotation with second level guys this year and it didn't work. So yes, they will want Patino. Anything more than those two is a horrible overpay. I wouldn't do that trade if it was only them.
I know that everybody wants this team to be competitive in 2020, but that is what every other team is counting on. When people get desperate they do stupid things. I am hoping against hope that AJ will stay strong. He could very easily destroy the entire team in one offseason if he does not.

With AJP on 5he firing aquad .. I can see Betts in a Padre uni for 2020.. Maybe he and a SP get us to playoffs in 2020.. Betts to SD gaining a lot of momentum across many publications and forums..

Probably Boston fans. Dreaming of dumping Price and JBJ on us and replacing them with Gore and Trammell. All for the pleasure of us having Betts for 1 whole year.

I could go for this one.
Im a bigger fan on X Edwards than CJ Abrams because Edwards is closer the ML and is a switch hitter. But Im probably in the minority on this one. And I would rather send Naylor than Renfroe. But either way, Betts would be a huge improvement over our existing OF. You realize Betts is close to a $30M salary for only one year though, right? Is there a team in baseball that has 2 $30M and 2 $20M salaries on the same team, wouldnt it be bizarre if SD was the only one.

I think we could be the one.. But Myers wouldnt be the 2nd $20 mil player if we acquired Betts it would be a SP..
No one os suggesting Gore or Tatis in Boston.. Someone actually suggested Morejon + Naylor + Lucchesi and Arias for Betts.. As somewhat equivalent to what St Louis gave up for Goldschdmit (also 1 yr of control at that time)

I don't want to make any trade for any short term player. I have discovered that I am part of a very small minority on this site who feel that way. Everyone is insisting that the team WILL do something HUGE this off season to save AJ's job. I do not happen to agree but I am a little tired of arguing. If we have to do something, that was something I wouldn't commit suicide over. But it is in no way something that I actually want. I am fine waiting long enough for our young talent to mature into a contender, THEN making 1 or 2 trades to get us into the WS with a chance to win. The playoffs mean nothing to me if the team loses in the first round or Wild Card game. But like I said, I am in the minority. Patience does not exist here.
