Quote from Henry Silvestre on December 1, 2019, 6:35 amStanton only makes $26 mil in 2020.. Has a chance to opt out in 21 (but won't) if he doesn't Marlins give NYY $30 mil which would then go to us.. His 21 $$ are $29,000,000 so we would get a net +$1mil... And have -$30,000,000 come off for 21.. Then +$32 mil in 22 and so forth

You are trolling right?
Just throwing it out..
Tatis/Grisham/Machado/Stanton/Sanchez/Frazier/Hosmer/P/France would be like the #1 lineup vs RHP in the MLB...

Quote from Henry Silvestre on December 1, 2019, 7:21 amI can see a Davies/Gore and Lucchesi/Patino at some point in 20 and 21.. Where one starts 5 IP or so and then the other finishes.. A Starter and A Finisher especially with inning limits and such for the rooks.. And the fact that Joey is so good thru 2 x's but not so good the 3rd time thru the lineup

Quote from fenn68 on December 1, 2019, 7:35 amMight just see one starting slot go Gore / Patino splitting innings in the second half ... if they do well in AMA and injuries / poor performances / trades open that last ML slot.
If they are that “high ceiling” would love to see them get a few months of ML time in 2020 for their full roll out in 2021.

Quote from fenn68 on December 1, 2019, 9:17 amAlthough Grisham may be an excellent prospect for the future ... not sure that in 2020 he is someone to rely on for improvement if they want to contend. Did a next level look at his 2019:
Totals: Grisham (156 AB) 231/328/410 vs. Margot (234 AB) 234/304/387
v. RHP: Grisham 234/333/411 vs. Margot 200/260/359
so Grisham maybe be a tick better offensively but worse defensively right now ... just nothing to show major upgrade.
Now the piece of some concern going into 2020:
Grisham away from Miller Park: 200/291/358
Margot away from PETCO: 263/308/451 but at PETCO 200/299/314
So, on the surface Margot is the much better option AWAY from PETCO then if Margot’s production plummets at PETCO and that is still the same as Grisham’s AWAY performance ... can we really expect Grisham at PETCO being better?
Not at all ready to settle in with Grisham as that substantial OF upgrade for 2020 ... or even the future. Potential yes ... rely on that potential in 2020-21 to contend?

C combined for .627 OPS in 2019. 2B .687 OPS AND CF .687 OPS.. All other positions were well over .700 OPS .. Grisham/Margot will be .735 + as a platoon there so a big improvement... Quote from fenn68 on December 1, 2019, 11:13 amClearly should be improvement with a full season of Tatis > Tatis / Urias .... full season of Mejia / TBD > Hedges / Mejia ... maybe a “slight” improvement with Margot / Grisham > Margot / XXX. Improvement there may also create some improvement with others given line-up length. After that it is more COULD/SHOULD surrounding the same players doing something different (that could go either way).
If contending in 2020 is the objective ... probably not enough ... but if improvement to .500 works ... that may work. Could get “lucky” with some improvement of existing players over their history (Myers, Renfroe) but hard to RELY on that.
Just for “sizing” using the 10th best slash line (10 teams make the playoffs) and in 2019:
For non-pitchers: #10 = 252/337/451 (788) vs. Padres = 243/315/423 (738)
For OF: #10 = 266/335/459 (794) vs. Padres = 236/308/434 (742)
Picking up .050 in OPS overall or in the OF considering all the players is a challenge more than Tatis and Mejia can overcome on their own. Plus that only gets them in the discussion ... still not among the better teams.
Need more offensive oriented bodies.

Also some folks that got baptize Naylor and France should improve.. Renfroe is fine around .800 OPS..but obviously showed much more than that in 1st half.. Perhaps its as easy as he has arrived but injuries were too painful to play thru in 2nd half..perhaps is deeper than that.. Also Machado had a very bad yr vs RHP vs Career Splits so if he just goes to career norms we have .050+ just there

This could work for both teams quite well
Are you a Yankee fan? Just no way on Earth a SD would even think about a trade like this.
First - Sanchez. Could be the worst defensive C in the MLs. He has barely averaged 100 games a season, and his career batting numbers are not getting better. And his power numbers are a product of playing in NYY and BAL.
Second - Frazier is also a terrible defender and an over hyped NYY prospect. He is not as good as Renfroe without the defense that Renfroe provides.
Third - Stanton. Love the bat and I think he would look good in LF for SD. However, the money he is owed is tremendous and he is starting on the downside of 30. Even if MIA does cover $30M, after that he is still owed $27M per year including the $10M buyout.
So you have sent out half our farm system for a catcher that cant catch, a OF that is over hyped, and $27M a year for LFer that is going to out age his contract. How exactly does that work well for SD?
