Quote from hoffy51 on November 27, 2019, 9:25 amSeems like Grisham will platoon with Margot in CF while we wait on Trammell. I agree, I think these moves are merely a precursor to thing to come. I can't see how they can trade Kinsler. Do you think he will start there with the hope that Edwards can move in after the All-Star break? If not, what is the plan for second base?

Word is SDP are high on this other "Mexican" to replace Urias "El Mexicano" ^^ as of now France/Quiroz/Garcia and Kinsler will be battling for AB's -- obviously a few could be moved or not on the roster come ST... Also dont count out Edwards graduating (a la Tatis Jr) his power still developing but his bat to ball and defensive skills at 2B are nearly MLB ready

Quote from fenn68 on November 27, 2019, 10:03 amQuote from fenn68 on November 27, 2019, 8:42 amThe Padres have struck a deal with free agent lefty Drew Pomeranz, per Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic (via Twitter). It’s turning into a barn-burner of a day for the San Diego organization, as the Friars have already struck a four-player swap with the Brewers.
======
Appears Pomeranz hit his stride last season as a LHRP (which is what I expect his role to be).
Padres really only have Strahm and Castillo are legit LHRP ... so fits.
Needs an offsetting 40 man roster move.
11:55am: Pomeranz is expected to receive a three-year guarantee, per ESPN.com’s Jeff Passan (via Twitter).
Now that is an aggressive signing even without knowing the dollars. LHRP is set-up with Strahm - Castillo - Pomeranz and COULD be the best LHRP set in MLB.

Edwards has shown everything to suggest a fast track but only 1/2 in A+ might be a bit of a leap to the ML on a team that is looking to start winning in 2020. However, if he does not falter in AA in the first half ... 2nd half? Opening day 2021? At least Tatis had a 1/2 year in AA before his jump.

Quote from fenn68 on November 27, 2019, 10:17 amSide note: MILW is considering Urias for SS if they non-tender Arcia ... remember that have an outstanding 2B in Hiura. Alternatively one may fill 3B if they choose to non-tender Shaw and keep Arcia.
Side two: apparently Grisham's swing was modified in the minors in 2019 and that really enhanced his prospect status so maybe more upside than his earlier minor league stats suggest.

Quote from WindsorUK on November 27, 2019, 10:27 amSo CF is now covered. The rotation seems full. The pen looks sound.
Big hole at 2nd but I'm thinking Edwards is up after the break.
We still need to sort out the C question: can we survive with Hedges hitting below the Mendoza line or do we go for Mejia's bat? I'm happy with Torrens or Allen as back up.
Myers and Renfroe still in the corners....I guess that's the next question answered( or of course the C question)?

Quote from Randy Manese on November 27, 2019, 10:28 amLike this trade/FA pick-up very much. Time was right to trade both Urias and Lauer because we don't know if Urias will ever be the same Urias we saw two years ago and Lauer has possibly reached his ceiling and won't bet significantly better. These are positions of depth in the system. Agree that Grisham will probably share CF with Margot but has potential to be more than a 4th OF. Davies had a nice bounce-back season after 2018 injuries and provides veteran depth if Richards fails and we can't land that TOR starter. Davies won't be a FA until 2022 and his last contract was only a little over 2.5 million; probably mid-3's in arbitration but certainly not an overall salary buster. Pomeranz did well in SD and I agree, that if healthy, we're looking at a solid left side of the bullpen. With Yates, Munoz, Baez, Bednar, etc. from the right side, I think we're done with bullpen shopping unless we want to bring Stammen back for a little more stability. Great start and looking forward to more trades/signings in the coming days!

Quote from TatisJr on November 27, 2019, 10:29 amHere we go! I was up all night with a sick dog and haven’t slept this late in years. Wake up to some Padres moves. I had Grisham acquired in the offseason predictions thread and I really like him as a platoon partner with Margot in CF. Davies is a soft tossing, smart, crafty pitcher. Davies ability to keep hitters guessing is fun to watch. He doesn’t throw hard at all, but he uses all of his tools to keep hitters off balance. I wasn’t a huge fan of Lauer. I think his ceiling is a number 4. I think this deal will be judged on how Urias develops. Milwaukee clearly thinks Urias is an everyday shortstop and his ML struggles aren’t an indication of the player he will become.
I was very surprised to see Pomeranz signed. I haven’t seen the total, but I imagine he’s in line for fairly big pay day. Pomeranz/Yates/Munoz/Baez/Castillo BP seems nasty to me. Now does this move mean Strahm is dealt? AJP does love his lefties so a BP featuring Strahm, Castillo and Pomeranz with all those young power righties and Kirby would make for a dominant Pen. All in all I’m happy with the moves so far. Urias could pan out and make the deal hurt, but count me in as a fan of the trade and Pomeranz signing. Anxious to see what AJP has up his sleeve next.

Could set up a move that includes either Strahm or Castillo though.
Or take this to another thought. Could this mean that Yates is now a trade option that gets us either a stud 2B or stud Corner OF?

I hope Urias becomes the next great thing to be honest as long as Grisham is Meadows 2.0... Sure some deals will hurt, but as long as our MLB team is BETTER than thats the price you pay-- I feel comfortable enough that CJ Abrams and Xavier Edwards will be better MLBers than Urias that I am ok with the move. We have Grisham in the OF now and can easily see a Franchy or Naylor trade now as well
