Davies (27 next season), arb at about $5MM, and under control for 2 years ... by himself seems like a win for the Padres. He not only started 31 games last season with a 3.55 ERA ... his AWAY from Miller Park ERA was 2.94 ... so project that into a home PETCO environment and 🙂

Then throw in Grisham (23) with 6 years control as the LHH option in CF ... that is good. Note really expecting a lot from Grisham (high draft pick but marginal in the minors) but clearly has ML skills for at least a role player.

Now do we expect a Kinsler / France / Garcia 2B rotation for 2020 ... or another move? Does suggest that the Padres may like the upside of Edwards arriving sooner than later (not 2020).

Does adding Davies reduce the pursuit of another SP and redirect money / prospects towards more impactful hitters? Or does adding Davis just make Lucchesi more a trade chip and they still pursue another TOR arm?

Money wise we are still fine to pursue the TOR and another LH outfielder and/or a 2b.

The prize was Davies in the deal and he is what cost Urias. Guessing they are not worried about 2B ... at least as a high priority. Probably more a Lauer - Grisham add as balancing in both teams' minds.

Davies fits well into the upper half of the rotation at a low ARB figure ($5MM) leaving money for other upgrades. In the big picture of building out a competitive roster ... great add.

I do like Urias' upside ... but that still comes with risk and with Edwards maybe a late 2021-2022 prospect for 2B ... fair trade-off. Note does suggest the Padres like Edwards for the future.

Luckily we have Kinsler to bridge the gap.

Appears Pomeranz hit his stride last season as a LHRP (which is what I expect his role to be).

Padres really only have Strahm and Castillo are legit LHRP ... so fits.

Needs an offsetting 40 man roster move.

Yeh, probably high on him but hard to see him being the everyday 2B in 2020 ... maybe a LHH role player in 2020 if they move one of Kinsler, Garcia, or France.

If they want to significantly improve ... might start with the veterans holding fort and, at best, phase in someone like Quiroz. Although with his time in the Mexican League and now at 27, he may hold more "veteran" profile that I think. Strong OBP not sure about his defense.

Take out Miller Park and insert PETCO for the home games and he should be up there with Paddack and Lamet and at only $5MM.

PS ... Lauer should be killed at Miller a HR haven ...
