Quote from MrPadre19 on November 27, 2019, 8:13 amI brought up Grisham and am happy to have him but for Urias?
They must really think he is not gonna hit.
Plus they must have another 2b in mind?
Howie Kendrick?
Sogard?

Quote from fenn68 on November 27, 2019, 8:28 amI guess Urias / Lauer were valued by MILW a lot more that we may have thought.
Davies (27 next season), arb at about $5MM, and under control for 2 years ... by himself seems like a win for the Padres. He not only started 31 games last season with a 3.55 ERA ... his AWAY from Miller Park ERA was 2.94 ... so project that into a home PETCO environment and 🙂
Then throw in Grisham (23) with 6 years control as the LHH option in CF ... that is good. Note really expecting a lot from Grisham (high draft pick but marginal in the minors) but clearly has ML skills for at least a role player.
======
Now do we expect a Kinsler / France / Garcia 2B rotation for 2020 ... or another move? Does suggest that the Padres may like the upside of Edwards arriving sooner than later (not 2020).
======
Does adding Davies reduce the pursuit of another SP and redirect money / prospects towards more impactful hitters? Or does adding Davis just make Lucchesi more a trade chip and they still pursue another TOR arm?

Quote from MrPadre19 on November 27, 2019, 8:33 amDavies is the “innings eater” they were looking for....not the TOR starter.
Im not sure if they look at Grisham as an everyday option at a corner OF spot or in a platoon with Margot in CF?
Money wise we are still fine to pursue the TOR and another LH outfielder and/or a 2b.
Please don’t give Kinsler 400+ AB’s!

The prize was Davies in the deal and he is what cost Urias. Guessing they are not worried about 2B ... at least as a high priority. Probably more a Lauer - Grisham add as balancing in both teams' minds.
Davies fits well into the upper half of the rotation at a low ARB figure ($5MM) leaving money for other upgrades. In the big picture of building out a competitive roster ... great add.
I do like Urias' upside ... but that still comes with risk and with Edwards maybe a late 2021-2022 prospect for 2B ... fair trade-off. Note does suggest the Padres like Edwards for the future.
Luckily we have Kinsler to bridge the gap.

Quote from fenn68 on November 27, 2019, 8:42 amThe Padres have struck a deal with free agent lefty Drew Pomeranz, per Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic (via Twitter). It’s turning into a barn-burner of a day for the San Diego organization, as the Friars have already struck a four-player swap with the Brewers.
======
Appears Pomeranz hit his stride last season as a LHRP (which is what I expect his role to be).
Padres really only have Strahm and Castillo are legit LHRP ... so fits.
Needs an offsetting 40 man roster move.

Quote from MrPadre19 on November 27, 2019, 8:48 amRumor is the Padres moved Urias because they are high on Esteban Quiroz?
Could he be our everyday 2b in 2020?

Yeh, probably high on him but hard to see him being the everyday 2B in 2020 ... maybe a LHH role player in 2020 if they move one of Kinsler, Garcia, or France.
If they want to significantly improve ... might start with the veterans holding fort and, at best, phase in someone like Quiroz. Although with his time in the Mexican League and now at 27, he may hold more "veteran" profile that I think. Strong OBP not sure about his defense.

Quote from fenn68 on November 27, 2019, 9:14 amDon't underestimate the talent of Zach Davis ... maybe not a TOR but clearly pushing as a #2 ... especially away from Miller park.
2019 (16 starts) AWAY ... 2.94 ERA (12 best of qualified SP in all MLB).
Career (50 starts) AWAY ... 3.04 ERA ... so NOT a fluke 2019.
Take out Miller Park and insert PETCO for the home games and he should be up there with Paddack and Lamet and at only $5MM.
PS ... Lauer should be killed at Miller a HR haven ...

Quote from Henry Silvestre on November 27, 2019, 9:18 amGrisham looked "terrific" in 2019 AA/AAA .300/.407/.603 1.010 OPS 26 Hrs 71 Rbis... best of all 67 BBs/72 SO's this dude is an OBP machine with pretty nice power for a CFer.. can play all 3 spots, but fits best in CF... Good baserunner too.. Only 22 so way I look at todays moves -- + Grisham + Davies + Pomz = +4 (or more) WAR improvement from Urias + Lauer... Our team just took a nice step foward-- I expect BIGGER signings and Trades to come... But this was a very solid start to the offseason for us... think about it we just got Brewers #1 SP, 2nd best BP arm and starting CF in the postseason... so 13% of the Brew Crew post season team is now in SD

Quote from fenn68 on November 27, 2019, 9:21 amReport out that the Orioles are working on a trade of Bundy (27, 1 year control, $5.7MM in arbitration) ... but poor results in 2019.
Now throw in the Baltimore connection with Dickerson and Kirby and the frequent view of Bundy by Rothchild ... possible the Padres make a play (should not cost much in talent). Possibly a conversion to RP since his swing and miss profile is strong? Of course all those connections may be saying stay away.
