Probably, right! But we know that wont happen.

I really wish Galvis didn’t turn down the Padres offer last offseason. We got stuck with Kinsler instead of having Freddy’s D and lefty bat. If I remember correctly money was the same or more from Pads, but he didn’t like the role he was offered and saw Urias/Tatis in the wings.

Listening to some talking heads on MLB on XM, and they added a little extra juice to a Rosenthal report that the Reds are interested in signing Wheeler this off season. Which lead the host to wonder if the Reds would, after adding Wheeler, would use one of their existing pitchers to chase down bats in spots they need. The name the host suggested was Luis Castillo.........which leads me to think, what would CIN need to work a trade with SD.

Reading the CIN outlook on MLBTR I am trying to determine the needs of CIN and how SD can help meet them. It appears that CIN could use either a 2B or CF based on where they play Senzel. They could use an upgrade at C, and possibly a SS should they not resign Iglesias. Obviously the acquisition of Castillo would hurt a lot.

SD gets Castillo and Galvis and CIN gets Lauer, Urias or Margot, Patino, Arias and probably one more prospect.

Whenever it's starts to get where you are just adding guys to a deal to make it balance out, be wary.  Way to much for Castillo. Patino is not in that deal. Interesting mention of gslvis though.

I know Galvis wasnt popular on here much, but I liked him and think he could be a nice back up in SD, being a switch hitter and able to play SS and 2B well.

I know CIN is more looking for bats and 2B or CF is there main need based on where they want Senzel. But I still believe that Patino would absolutely need to be in the deal for CIN to get value back, because Lauer and Margot/Urias are not enough. Basically, Castillo is already what we still hope Patino can be. And Castillo still has four years of control. And Castillo is better than any FA or trade option out there except for Cole or Stras.

Seriously? We think the Reds are going to sign Wheeler so they can trade Castillo for what? Margot, Urias, Lauer and Patino? I am sure that the Mets are hoping that we will sign Gregorius so we can trade them Tatis for Rosario, Gimenez, Szapucki and Allen. It's about as likely to happen too.

As I said in my first post, this was not my idea. One I heard on XM on the way home. And yes, its just conjecture on the part of a talking head on the radio. So dont play if you dont want to, and just talk about true things after they happen. But we have been doing this for years on here in the off season, so let us have our fun.

Okay then. One good thing about Castillo is that he would be a great mentor for Paddack. He could teach him how to thrive on essentially just a fastball and changeup. And yes, if we wanted to get Castillo we would most certainly need to include Patino. As a young, true ACE with another 4 years of control remaining Castillo is one of the most valuable assets in the game. IMO that 4 years of control makes him worth a much greater prospect haul than Betts, Thor or even Lindor.

Not questioning the trade value of Castillo ... just if CINN was pursing Grandal before he signed and in on Wheeler they want to win now and IF they traded Castillo they want equivalent ML productivity in return (not prospects). Keeping Castillo is better for them than prospects / fringe ML players.

Padres (other than Tatis) have nothing at the ML level to work a Castillo deal ... and CINN does not have to deal him unless they are "overwhelmed".

Remember they traded a top prospect (Trammell) to get a veteran in Bauer. Heard nothing about them changing their direction.

Castillo trade with Wheeler signing makes as much sense as Paddack trade if we sign Wheeler ..whats the point ?

Back to a Blockbuster ..Bryant + Contreras to Padres for Myers $15mil + Morejon + Quantrill + Bolanos+ Mejia + Arias + Ornelas ... Let's Go!
