Quote from fenn68 on November 22, 2019, 5:27 amI still want to give Urias a full run to earn the 2B spot in 2020. Way too soon to discard him. He is still just 22 ... was a MLB Top 50 prospect ... and his ML development was impressive:
Jul (31 AB) .... 097/300/195
Aug (80 AB)... 238/330/338
Sep (80 AB)... 300/371/424
Add that he has good defense at 2B.
Maybe his image is suffering from not coming out as the next Tatis and a slow start ... but at 22 with an elite pedigree and a ML development progression into a high quality Sept should get him the role. Want OBP and defense ... he should be your guy at 2B.
Use the trade chips for OF/SP and don’t waste any on 2B. Additionally a real proven upgrade 2B likely has a salary well above minimum taking away money to use on other upgrades. Then consider one of the Padres’ other elite prospect ... Edwards ... will be in AA and COULD be up in 2021 (2022 worst case). Fortunately the Padres have Kinsler / Garcia / France for emergency fill in 2020 if needed.
Focus #1 should be on upgrading OF .... use of prospects ... use of money to get the maximum improvement in team offense.

My speculation is all based on the Padres acting differently.
"They" have mentioned upgrading 2b so you have to at least consider that they will.
Or that they will at least attempt too.
My hope is they are able too while still holding on to Urias.

I think; depending on the article, you can interpret it two ways. One, it seems that SD wants to bring in "competition" for Urias. Two, they imply that Urias "could be" used as a trade chip to upgrade an OF spot. So I think its possible that SD does start the season with Urias at 2B, and I would not have a problem with that, as I like his type of OBP bat. With that said, I can see if Urias is needed to be included in a package to get the LHH corner OF, it sounds like AJP wont hesitate to include Urias.

Quote from fenn68 on November 22, 2019, 6:47 amGenerally 2B is not a major target area for trades ... hard to see Urias being a major factor in making a trade happen. He (or most 2B) would be viewed more as the “throw-in” piece by the seller of any elite player.
Sort of goes to my view that trade value is often less than the upside potential to the current team (mainly because the trade partner has to give up value to get the player).
If they did move Urias to get a major upgrade in the OF .... want Kinsler / Garcia / France at 2B? Would they have to go out and add another 2B (not sure who is realistically available) and if that player is good ... going to cost prospects / money.
I guess we could add that other than creating a 2B issue to replace Urias ... does that create a issue for back-up SS? Do they really want to Machado into the next Myers and bounce him from position to position?
I see the Padres getting their OF upgrades through their pitching trade chips bundled with their OF pieces. Pitching more needed than 2B prospects.

Quote from MrPadre19 on November 22, 2019, 9:04 amAs much as they've preached improving the offense i just can't see them turning 2b over to Kinsler/France/Garcia.
Garcia is more valuable as Utility/PH and the other two were part of the problem last .......so probably not part of the solution this year.
So if not Urias I'm thinking they bring someone in on a short deal to bridge gap to Edwards.
Someone like Kendrick/Sogard/Gennett maybe?

Gennett was actually my pick in your guessing thread as the 2B add. I went and looked, yes he had a terrible 2019. But for playing in the great hitters ball park of CIN, his home/away splits were very even, and the power numbers barely were better in CIN so his bat should play in any ball park. And being LHH he has a .298/.339 career line v. RHP. He did make $9.78M last season, I dont see SD spending that much money on him, but if he is willing to take a incentive laden contract could be a good fit, even if he plays part time with Urias.

Quote from Henry Silvestre on November 22, 2019, 10:00 amAdd Kwang HYUN-KIM LHP from Korea (being posted) this dude can flat out pitch under 4 ERA in Korea is very good..this guy went 2.51 in 2019.. Mid 90's.. ++ slider... And screwball that is nasty... Can always be a cheap FA alternative for Pads.. He also threw 190 IP in 19 so can eat innings as well

Quote from BoosterSD on November 22, 2019, 7:04 pmListening to some talking heads on MLB on XM, and they added a little extra juice to a Rosenthal report that the Reds are interested in signing Wheeler this off season. Which lead the host to wonder if the Reds would, after adding Wheeler, would use one of their existing pitchers to chase down bats in spots they need. The name the host suggested was Luis Castillo.........which leads me to think, what would CIN need to work a trade with SD.
Reading the CIN outlook on MLBTR I am trying to determine the needs of CIN and how SD can help meet them. It appears that CIN could use either a 2B or CF based on where they play Senzel. They could use an upgrade at C, and possibly a SS should they not resign Iglesias. Obviously the acquisition of Castillo would hurt a lot.
SD gets Castillo and Galvis and CIN gets Lauer, Urias or Margot, Patino, Arias and probably one more prospect.

Quote from TatisJr on November 22, 2019, 7:53 pmInteresting deal there Booster. Patino is on my untouchables list and hopefully AJPs too. I doubt Cincy would deal Castillo without parting with Patino, but it would be sweet to add Castillo and get Freddy back.

Agree that Patino should be close to untouchable, but to get a 4 year controllable ACE, I would trade Patino who could be an ACE. I just wonder if the package back to the Reds is too light, even including Patino.
