I am already very excited about Ismael Mena. 16yrs old, already 6'3", premium speed and a plus left-handed bat. Infinite promise. I truly hope we do not trade him before he finishes growing. Fortunately I think that AJ sees the possible futures in these kids too. I hope that makes him wise enough to not give up a guy with huge potential for peanuts. I doubt that Chaim Bloom will be better at looking. Into kids futures than AJ is.

Whats too light for Benintendi, I never mentioned prospects. In addition, you know as well as I do, when you want money to go away, you can do a couple of different things. Trade bad money for bad money. Include money to the trade. Or attach better players to have the other team take the money. BOS is going to have to do something to get under the luxury tax, and attaching Benintendi to the dollars of JDM and Bradley can do that.

I would love to see us be able to get rid of Myers and all but $15 million of his salary in this suggested package. I don't see any way we can get Bieber like the author does. Especially not at the price he suggests!

😆... I had a dream Preller got Mazara + Choo from Ranger in a Myers + deal.. Then got Gray both today... He then flip Choo to Sox for Benintendi + Price.... Kinsler also moved to his former AS days team Texas..

I read that article yesterday, and would add that I would hope that SD could add one more prospect and get TEX to take all of the salary. But definitely think AJP would take the proposed deal.
I agree, his package for getting the Beebs is way to light. And IMO no matter what the package to a certain point, CLE would not trade Beiber anyway. I do think his proposed package would get us Kluber though.

Dude, nobody wants Choo or Price. Why would you want Price at $32M a year? He is $96M for the next 3 years. There is no way he is going to perform to that money. He turns 35 this year. He will be 38 the last year of his contract. He has had arm issues. Since 2015 he has only topped 150 innings twice. He is no longer a work horse, he is no longer an Ace, he is no longer worth $32M a year. Even if subtract the $21M for Choo, that means he is still costing SD $25M a year. There are so many better ways to spend $25M per season. I get your affection for Benintendi, but not at $25M a year.

I completely agree Booster. I’ve seen tons of proposals where the Padres dump Myers contract for an even worse contract. Benintendi is a good player, but he ain’t worth taking on Prices deal. I think TT will be a better player than Benintendi anyways. TT will be up soon enough that we don’t need to overpay for a Benintendi type player and increase payroll for next 3 years. I’d rather bet on Myers instead of taking on more bad money for an aging player in decline.

I think Benintendi and Trammell are different players, with Trammell hopefully being the long term answer in CF and Benintendi holding down a corner spot. However, as you said, not at the cost of taking on Price's contract.

A platoon of Renfroe and Mazara for about $9M for the season makes for a nice RF situation. However, as mentioned in the article that J135 referenced, I think most will agree we do not need to take on Choos salary for a deal to happen between TEX and SD.

At the risk of being a heretic .... I would not force a Myers trade if it required taking on any bad contract or cost any of the better prospects. Hold ... let him try to rebound (and at least recuse this contract liability for a future deal). Not as though the Padres will take over the LAD in 2020.
IF Preller is hitting a logjam on moving Myers ... might move to marketing Margot (seems to be a number of teams needed a legit defensive CF) and maybe Renfroe if they come up with a regular LHH RF (no platoon) ... sounds like the seeds of a NYM Conforto deal. Gamble on an early arrival of Trammell ... signing of Akiyama ... or horrors of horrors ... let Myers play CF in the interim.
Just don’t panic and make the going forward path worse by forcing a Myers deal ... still should be an overpaid 1 WAR player.
