Trade ideas
Quote from MrPadre19 on February 19, 2020, 10:59 amQuote from sportwarrior on February 19, 2020, 10:40 amUgh I am extremely not on board with this trade talk. There just is no way we jettison Myers and acquire Lindor or Senzel without giving up a TON of prospects. 1) Myers' value will never be lower; 2) We're at the start of our window and shouldn't accelerate it at the cost of our elite prospects; 3) Lindor is a rental; 4) Senzel is just as much a prospect as any of the guys we'd be giving up, except we'd be paying a premium.
Let Myers play through till midseason and reassess then. DON'T overpay for one year of Lindor and DON'T overpay for Senzel. And definitely don't trade Arias. He's on the cusp of a huge breakout and we're going to be killing ourselves if we trade him now.
It's actually "two" years of Lindor.
Does that change your mind at all Sport?

People on this forum just love the idea of quality multiple prospects for a prospect or rental....doesn't make much sense but gives people something to do I guess.....
1) Meyers just needs to play and without Andy Green around screwing him up I expect he will have a good year
2) This whole window was what we the fans have been told about building from the farm up so we don't ever have to rebuild just reload. It's close to fruition so I say stay the course and let this " Hot Lava Flow " of talent make their mark this season and going forward
3) Multiple quality prospects for a Rental is just plain stupid unless it is a "Kevin Brown" type of deal that is the actual last piece of the puzzle that puts the Padres over the top as in winning the west not just a chance at a play in wild card game or series. Lindor will not sign in San Diego when he hits the open market and the Padres don't have that kind of scratch to use.....ie; Betts, Cole etc. They have Machado and Hosmer and will be needing to figure out a way to pay Tatis and Paddack so rentals are just not worth the cost in my opinion.
4) Senzel is Meyers all over again....talented guy ( prospect) that can play various positions.....none great but versatile at a lower cost.....figure out a way to get him and not deal away multiple prospects that are at least his equal if not better.
On a side note and this is just my own opinion but the damage that was done by Andy Green to players and coaches on this team will take awhile to get past.....the list of victims is long.....Meyers , who I hope will have a killer season and play happy and for the Padres instead of in spite of the Padres, is first and foremost, Hedges, somebody please coach him up and Hedgy.....be willing to make changes, Reyes, best thing that could have happened to him was getting out of San Diego and this in and out of the line up garbage, Renfroe, this guy put up good numbers in spite of Andy Green...yes he struck out more than he should have but the guy had a cannon arm and serious power yet Green did the total power trip mind control number on Renfroe......I hope he goes off for 40 plus knocks this year and plays great defense for Tampa Bay...they have better coaches that will improve his game and his approach at the plate.
Heading out to Peoria in a few weeks.......Padres baseball and the Mecum auto auction.....should be fun
Go Padres !!!

Quote from Brian Connelly on February 19, 2020, 11:34 amWell, no matter how it gets spun, if anything happens, it's really multiple deals.
I think FENN posted re Fowler's recent comments that: 1) Payroll wouldn't increase from current levels (140-141 MM) BUT 2) Still trying to make a significant move... which means have to trade Myers to do anything.
I've always loved how Preller explores & pushes CONSTANTLY to determine present value on players he's interested in, not just "now", but later too... even when it seems "out there".... But Fowler's comments make me worried that Preller is being pushed to do this (despite the $ constraints) . I'm all for making the team better, but also believe in "being reasonable" & not mortgaging the future in a season where the probability of us catching LAD is extremely low. I WAS for Betts, but that was a unique situation where he dramatically improved Myers' position on the field (not creation of another hole) AND didn't go to LAD! A Betts deal also would have HAD to increase payroll.
My concern is that we are going to have to "reach" not only for a star player, but also in the Myers trade out... giving up more than should be neccy because we not only "have to" win this season, we have to do it while staying under an arbitrary payroll ceiling. Fowler & Seidler HAVE to see that they can't compromise the future to get >.500 in 2020. Particularly if THEY'RE not willing to put their $ where their mouths are to do so.

Quote from MrPadre19 on February 19, 2020, 12:03 pmWe’re talking about it 3finger because it’s in the news.Apparently AJ is not done and is still trying to make a big move. It’s not us in here who “want” to trade away our prospects....we are just speculating on what AJ “wants” to do.
Probably nothing will become of it.....but yeah,if it’s even a remote possibility we will discuss it.
Unless Patino running wind sprints is worth discussing?
lol

I'd actually be down to discuss Naylor running wind sprints! I'd be lying if I said I wasn't curious about what effects his supposed weight loss might have on his play this spring.

Quote from JasonE135 on February 19, 2020, 10:08 pmI don't get why people are so hot for Senzel anyway. Do you know who had almost the exact same year as Senzel last year? Will Myers. Wil's rookie year was far superior to Senzels, with an OPS roughly .100 higher. Isn't everyone here incredibly bitter about the Trea Turner+ for Will Myers trade? Should we really do the exact same thing again?

Quote from MrPadre19 on February 20, 2020, 3:11 amAll players are different.
Just because they had similar seasons last year doesn’t mean they will stay the same over the next 5 seasons.
Plus Senzel is playing for league minimum and plays CF/2B.
I don’t have any idea how good Senzel will be....but it seems AJ has already decided he doesn’t want to roll with Myers at $20 mil.

Quote from WindsorUK on February 20, 2020, 6:20 amI'd be alright with Wil being here this year. As I've stated before, I agree with 3Finger that AG played a MAJOR role in Myer's struggles.
I guess we'll get a chance to find out this year ( as long as Tingler isn't drinking from the same fountain of stupidity)

Quote from MrPadre19 on February 20, 2020, 6:33 amI've said it before I think Myers will play better if played regularly.
Whether that means we keep him or still trade him I don't know.
But AJ doesn't seem to want to let this play out with Myers and see how he does.
He seems to be ready to move on even if that means losing s prospect/s "and" paying some of his salary.
Maybe that's a mandate from ownership?
To save the $10 mil per season.
Or it's possible AJ just wants to make more moves and they won't let him "unless" he finds a taker for Wil?
Either way...it gives us something to talk about and speculate on anyway.

Myers has avg 1.7 WAR per season... While not terrible . not really helpful for a regular on a contending team... I like Wil and think he will have a Headlley type career yr when all comes together..not sure he can do it consistently as he is wildly inconsistent.. I am sure if he goes to Boston he will be 30/30 3 WAR type.. BUT he is not doing it for SDP so it doesn't matter ..especially if we replacw him with 4 WAR Lindor or Bryant... I dont think a swap of JBJ for Wii +$21 mil + Q + Naylor is that bad of a deal for us..hell an avg 2.2 WAR JBJ would still be an upgrade over Wil without the added stud (Lindor/KB)
