More to come but at first blush hard for me to see who is going back to TB to justify the deal (baring a 3 way deal):
Cardinals Acquire Matt Liberatore
The Cardinals have acquired left-hander Matthew Liberatore from the Rays, ESPN.com’s Jeff Passan reports (Twitter link). The return headed back to Tampa Bay is expected to include at least one player from the Cards’ Major League roster, and hints at a very notable trade given Liberatore’s top-prospect status.

Liberatore is MLB's #41 prospect (but only in low A last season) ... still worth a lot . StL is a legit contender that needs to add not delete players .... so Liberatore is not going to help them for years.
Curious.

I’m guessing Jose Martinez?
Quality hitter but needs to be in the A.L.

Then again TB wants outfielders and Martinez isn’t a good defender.....maybe Bader?

He was high on my guess list ... also STL back-up catcher Andrew Knizner makes sense for them. Logically a ML OF given the crowd contending for the STL OF.
Hard to balance what makes sense for TB that does not hurt STL in 2020 and their Division race unless STL has a plan to flip Libertore for ????????

Jose Martinez won't be nearly enough. A 30 year old guy coming off a subpar season at the plate with zero glove could be a part of the trade, but the balance will be made up elsewhere. My guess is Tyler O'Neill plus another guy or two.
That said, I still scratch my head over how we ended up drafting Ryan Weathers over Matt Libertore.

What makes you say he’s automatically better than Weathers?

TB’s OF currently is Meadows - Kiermaier - Renfroe ... plus they signed DH/1B Tsutsugo. I could see them wanting to upgrade offense over Kiermaier (great defense no offense) but Bader only hit .206 (.680 OPS). O’Neal is not a CF so not sure where he fits (RHH).
On the flip side ... not sure about STL OF ... a lot of bodies but none imposing bats:
Edman - Bader - Fowler - O’Neal - Martinez plus a major prospect in Carlson. Would think they would be looking for an offensive improvement in the OF.
This one is just hard to clearly see it from both sides.
Also, apparently Comp Round picks are being traded (a Comp A for Comp B ... about 30 difference in draft slot).

STL gets Libertore, low minors catching prospect, Comp Pick B
