Quote from BoosterSD on December 16, 2019, 9:15 pmQuote from Henry Silvestre on December 16, 2019, 8:45 pmI think a 3 way with Seattle and KC can be interesting
.. Seattle gets Myers + Hedges + Lucchesi + Potts +$21 mil
..KC gets Dee Gordon + Quantrill + Naylor + Hunt + Morejon
We add Whit 2B and Haniger RF. To upgrade the offense big time... Without adding a cent on payroll.. Also SP Duffy slides right into /4th/5th SP we do pay $21 mil so Myers saves us $15 or so per year..
Is SD paying the $21M to SEA? Or is KC paying it? Or is it a combo of both SD and KC?
Myers salary is $20M and Hedges is est $3M. Duffy is $15.25M, Whits is $5M, and Haniger is est at $3M. So that is $23.25M in added obligations for SD, minus the $23M for Myers and Hedges, so that is a break even. Then you have SD sending SEA $21M, that is a $7M addition to the payroll for the next 3 years. Thats not good. Plus, now that we have Whit, what are you doing with Kinsler and his money. Gotta add that to your total. From my excel sheet, the moves that you are talking about adds about $5M over what are on the hook with Myers currently.
Plus if SD is sending $21M for Myers contract, there is no way Im sending that many prospects/players out as well. Definitely not Quantrill or Morejon.

Your only counting 2020 $$$ for Myers.. Not 21 and 22.. Duffy is done after next year.. Yes we are paying $21 .. $7 per for 3.. As far as tge specs.. Whit is likely to demand that easy.. Same with Haniger.. We would be lucky to get thise 2 players and the Myers dump without touching our top5 prospects ..or as I proposed above

Quote from BoosterSD on December 19, 2019, 10:38 amThougts, if SD was willing to bump payroll this year to $150M for the right guys. And SD was willing to part with prospects. SD could trade for both Cleavinger and Merrifield, and be under $150M including keeping Myers.
CLE gets Patino, Quantrill or Luchessi, Arias, Lawson, and Naylor, plus takes Kinslers contract, SD gets Cleavinger.
KC gets Baez, Weathers, Torrens, and Ona or Ornealas, SD gets Merrifield.
SD rotation is Cleavinger, Paddock, Richards, Lamet, Davies. With Quantrill or Luchessi to back fill behind Richards and Lamet.
SD starting line up is Merrified - 2B, Pham - LF, Tatis - SS, Machado - 3B, Hosmer - 1B, Mejia - C, Grisham - CF, Myers - RF. With bench of Hedges, Garcia, Profar, Margot, and France.
Total payroll would be $143-144M dollars, leaving 6-7M to use for adds in season when we are in contention.

Quote from Brian Connelly on December 20, 2019, 7:27 amIndians asking for "final & best" on Lindor...
I think Pads are just pushing the price up for LAD who probably still 50% chance of actually getting him.
The name sounds nice, but just don't see how Padres fit: 1) The $$, but also 2) him positionally.... not thrilled with the idea of telling Tatis to move positions right when we want to extend him...
The silver lining of LAD getting him would be a massive depletion of their seemingly never ending elite prospect capital, MAYBE leaving us better positioned to get someone/s who make more $$$ sense?

I never understand how Lux + May or Patino + Campusano are "Massive minor league depletion " .. Its 2 specs.. For all we know 2 or 3 J2 signings or Hunt are or will be > Campusano and Patino .. Same thing with LAD.. I mean both of these teams will have +25 drafted signings and +10 + J2 signings in 6 months.. Plus both of these farms are elite.. Lawson pitxhed > Patino and Gore in tge AZ fall league ..put himself onbthe map as a legit spec after that.. So to me trading 2 or 3 top 5 specs and 2 or 3 10-25 specs is not "depleting tge farm" I mean just a year ago Potts was like 25..and Morejon 2 or 3rd in our spec rankings ..now Potts is #8 and Morejon is like #7 or #9.. And our #1 SP spec.. From a couple of yrs ago all world (Fore/Patino +) is recovering fromnhis 2nd TJ surgery .. Use the spec capital to improve the MLB roster with proven studs.. How many specs did Nats have starting for them in the P dept in the WS? Hoy? ZERO.. How about position players who were Rookie specs or even 2nd yr players.. Hou =1 .. Nats =2
And we are hoping we stand pat and win a WS in 20/21/22/23 with like 5-6 would be 1st or 2nd yr players .. Not happening .. Name the last team that started more than 3 1st or 2nd yr players and won a WS? Hell for all of you enamored with the possibility of Gore\Patino/Paddack leading us to a WS if we stay the course maybe just maybe that trio + Lamet gets us a ship by 24 if everything falls in line perfectly which is highly unlikely

Quote from MrPadre19 on December 20, 2019, 11:46 amNot to mention we have a top 10 pick coming up.
Take the number 1 College arm/bat(and the right one!) available and you’re only a year away from replacing whoever is traded.

May be fine with 2 years off of SS if it means adding a player like Lindor.
Pipe dream anyway.....

Quote from fenn68 on December 22, 2019, 6:41 amAnother not going to happen scenario but:
- there are a number of teams that are seeking a high end 3B ... Donaldson is the last one on the FA market
- rumors abound that the Cubs are willing to deal Bryant and (surprisingly) COLO is willing to deal Arenado
Would (should) the Padres consider dealing Machado (don't think he has a no-trade) just to get out of his $270MM/9 year remaining contract ... not really concerned about the return?
One transitional year not the best to make a judgement but Machado, in my opinion, way under reformed his contract and did little to move the Padres out of the 90+ loss zone. If the Padres can get out of that commitment and redeploy the money more productively ... should be considered. Machado may perform better on the East Coast (PHIL?) and there are teams that likely see 2019 in SD as an aberration.

Could that be part of a Lindor trade? Could either Machado be part of the package going back to CLE? Or could SD get Lindor, slide Tatis to 3B (same side of the INF as SS) and flip Machado to a team like PHI, ATL, or NYM? Although, PHI is up against the tax I believe, so maybe have to take Arrieta back??

Cubs need to control "Payroll" as in not go over Lux tax and owner claiming "poverty"... Colorado would trade Arenado cause only 2 yrs of control (like Lindor) and it may feel like rebuilding now rather than later as the West looks to have 3 teams preping to do battle LAD/AZ and SDP... One team rebuilding SF (or at least pretending to remaining interested while doing so)... and Colorado who is neither here nor there sort of in Limbo at the moment... SDP is on the upswing-- Machado is bird in hand (signed seal and delivered) why would we trade him to Clev for a 1 yr rental? furthermore Manny is here to get us to the WS and his production (even down yr 2019) would be extremely hard to replace... If anyone moves out of the big 3 (Hosmer/Myers/Machado) $$ guys-- it will be Myers and it will be soon
