Fair take.  He would definitely "cost" less than Merrifield.  2 / 24 vs really 4 / about 24.  But  have to be the top 2 FA desirability wise on market.

I like Conforto a lot as well. However, I think that he is about as much money as Marte. So if thats the case, just go get Marte. Marte is probably better defensively than Conforto. Plus IIRC, Conforto is not that great v LHP, so now you would need someone for ABs in RF against LHP.

Conforto est 2020 salary - $9.2M and arb again in 2021, FA 2022.

Marte - 2020 $11.5M and 2021 - $12.5M, FA 2022.

LAA have an outstanding offense and very weak pitching. Need more than one headline FA yet have s poor farm system.

Plus all the teams that wanted a #4-5 starter have fewer to choose from (and clearly the pay is very high.

Maybe a opportunity opens up for the Pads to trade.

I do think they should instead, focus on getting Marte. Pads home page suggested that a combo of Mejia or Torrens plus a young pitcher should get it done. Still would need to find a home for Myers and/or Hosmer. Speaking of which, apparently in talks with KC about Merrifield, AJP was trying to include Myers in the deal, and possibly thats what the hold up is. An according to this report (bleacher report I think) it wasnt Myers himself, it was the money. So maybe this could still happen, just going to need to include more dollars or another prospect to make KC pull the trigger.
